    Shotgun ignoramus seeks ammo advice

Love me some 410. It's the perfect skeet gun IMO. never tried it at trap because trap bores me. I've never done it but most of what I've read on 410 patterning just leads you down a rabbit hole. I quickly decided not to bother with it and settled on light mod and mod chokes and called it a day...

All around shotgun - any reason NOT to buy a 12 gauge ???

You know, if I could only have one shotgun it would be a 12. Hands down. If I was budget conscious, or just wanted a pump, I'd spend money on a high grade pump. A good condition, Older, 870 wingmaster Remington would be my 1st choice. Lots of 1 gun versatility with this gun. If a little more...

    870 kaputt

Figured it out. I forgot you have to seat both bars in the receiver. Works like a champ

    870 kaputt

Dusted off an 870 20 gauge express Saturday for skeet. Love the gun but it has had a history of "jumping the bolt" and by that i mean the bars somehow twist or jump the bolt and lock the gun up. This time was more severe. Usually when this happens you can drive out all the pins and field strip...

Questions about an extended choke for a Henry .410

Lately I've been using LM chokes from puregold on my 410 for skeet and they seem fine for that purpose.

Recommendation on a foul weather skeet gun

Any shotgun that fits you well and preferably has a plastic or composite stock would do you well. I like the Winchester S3 that my friend uses. Has a great factory bolt release tab but i don't personally care for the feel of the wrist. Good for a tight budget and my only be available in 12. Im...

    Recommendations for sporting clays

Understood. I prefer 1- 1 1/8 oz moving at 1145 fps. In 12 gage... i dont like heavy guns. i love 1/2 oz moving at 1200 fps but thats just me and it doesnt work well at SC coarses so far.

    Recommendations for sporting clays

No beads for me please. Lost the bead on my beater some time ago thank goodness and it will never offend me again. Beads are 'pointless'... dare i say... aimless

    Recommendations for sporting clays

This is an interesting thread. I like an SA for clays because on my course the birds will tend to be further away and higher velocity shells and heavier shot is more common. Gun cradles on a golf cart are rough on stocks so i prefer plastic or composite stocks for this. All stations at my range...

    Beretta A300 or Stoeger M3000

I couldn't in good faith recommend the stoeger. Granted my size sample is exactly '1' but that is enough for me to doubt the brand. What a POS that '1' was! If i found an a300 for 550 clams in the black i would probably have to visit a chiropractor after i dislocated my hip reaching for my...

    Beretta A-300 - thoughts?

I havent used any grease. About every 500 rounds i clean the piston and run a patch through the bore. Its usually not that dirty. Hoppes #9 takes care of that. Sometimes I take out the bolt and wipe that down along with the recoil rod with CLP. Mine has/ had a few changes over time. The Briely...

    Beretta A-300 - thoughts?

Mine is somewhere in the 8-9k round count now and dead nuts reliable with all ammo with the exception of 1 oz loads below 1100 fps. It's mostly my beater loaner gun now. One impressive gun. Mine has/ had the black synthetic stock which I didnt care for. Now its orange.

    Shockwaves and the like..... useful?

Possibly useful I suppose. Definitely better than nothing at all but, I have found them to be lacking. They are LOUD. Very LOUD! Missing is easy even at close range. The novelty wore off for me after the 1st 3 rounds. For me they aren't so painful as much as they are unpleasant. To the point of...

    Winchester Model 12, 20g, High-Grade Skeet

1st thought.... beautiful! 2nd thought.... perfect! 3rd thought... shoot it and tell us about about perfection.

    pump or semi shotgun

I didn't vote. Either choice would be fine. From my on experience both pumps and semi autos fail. Pump failure are usually, but not always, operator error. SA are usually, but not always, ammo related. I've seen both types have mechanical issues as well. For OPs purpose I can only recommend...

    Upland .410

I dont want to sound like a fan boy but I would suggest you look at Yildiz from academy sport. Handles more like a 1x4 than a 2x4 and fit and finish is quite good for the money. A SXS in 410 is around the 450 mark without ejectors and has mechanical trigger. I haven't seen one on the rack lately...

    Youth 20 GA O/U suggestions

  18. Sappyg2.0

    Instead of that shoestring O/U

Hope the 1100 works out. Hopefully you add a shell catcher to the gun for trap. I'll echo George P by saying that generally SA guns are frowned on in trap.

    I went out and... bought... a semi-auto

Anymore these days I'd just as soon shoot a semi than not. I think I prefer them above all others if I'm honest with myself. Congratulations on the new SA.

Model Suggestions For A "Fighting" 20 Gauge

I'm partial to the 870 express youth model but readily admit to a bias. I have one. Mine is in stock form with a slip on pad. other add ons include several extended chokes and sling swivel mag cap. That's it. A slug barrel with iron sights would be nice to have and they seem to be more common...
