Self defense options for carry on flying in the USA

Here is just one example of lanyards with striking implements I have carried on flights across the globe. I recent years, though, I've just usually worn a Wilderness belt with a titanium buckle and a padlock on the side of a carry-on. And, yes, I can strike directly with it, with no warm-up...

Self defense options for carry on flying in the USA

This is truly fantasy. The "H2H training" most terrorists have who would try to take down a plane is laughable.

Self defense options for carry on flying in the USA

I have demonstrated hitting a large chunk of log with a common water bottle hard enough to knock it several feet. Yes, training is always a good idea, but even a few minutes striking a good target several times a week can dramatically increase someone's effectiveness.

More knives from my misspent youth.

Neat topic.. 😃 The first pocket knife that I carried religiously- 30 years ago in Dayton, OH- was the Buck Crosslock. Heh. Two or three years later, I was working a second job in the sporting goods section of K Mart. A customer was looking at our knives, and I made the mistake of showing...

Help me pick out my birthday gift...

This. Exactly, would be my recommendation. Now, if it was for myself, I would go for the Spyderco first but for others I would generally recommend the inverse.

    Camping/woods knife

There are no "do it all" guns. When I was young and more foolish, I tried to find one gun to do everything, but there is no such animal. The least # of firearms to do most things is 2, but 4 or 6 is more reasonable. Knives are similar. Most used will be something in the 2-4" range, but when...

If you have limited funds, a hatchet and small knife are the way to go. John

    300 Blackout or 556/223?

As a couple of people have said, if you want a pistol, .300 is a better choice, as well as if you want to shoot subsonics. if you just want something to pop deer out to 150 m, 300 is fine. if you want a more versatile round, 5.56 is the way to go. I've had two 7.62x39mms that were not in...

    Combat Knives let's see 'em!

The best single solution I found to a deployment/combat knife while I was an infantryman was the On Scene Tactical "speed dialer". It was a sheath for a WAVE-equipped Spyderco, giving the speed of a quick-draw fixed blade with the convenience and light weight of a folder. The Service Member...

.45 acp hornady 230gr HAP hp38 high velocity

I'd say you have a very strong gun, but you've been given good advice. The FTFs concern me. Have you ever polished your chamber? My first exposure to an online firearms community was about 25 years ago. The firearms in question were pretty decent, but had poor QC. A common fix in many problems...

    Perfect vs One Gun

Being an proud citizen of these United States, I'd say a stout .45-70 would be preferable, being able to be loaded down to kill small game without much extra damage, or loaded up to "Rhino Roller" stats. Sure, that .404 will work, but it ain't from around these parts- and the one thing we in...

Completed a 9mm PCC! Now to aim it?

I like the Romeo 5 a lot, but I prefer the Athlon's ability to use AAA batteries, for the same cost. Now, the Romeo 5X does use AAA, but it runs about $50 more than the standard Romeo 5.

    Combat Knives let's see 'em!

(ETA; I had a problem loading the first picture. Mal finally got it working, but I found some additional pics to add.) In the first picture, I am carrying a recurve 5" bladed custom by Shane Justice. It's on a Mountain in Kapisa Province in early 2007. Never went hand-to-hand with it, but...

What is your maximum distance for medium/large game?

My 2 longest shots so far have been 225 and 178 yards. Scoped '03 with 150 gr SPs. My max range right now with flatter rounds and high power scope would be about 400 meters. With some of my "Goldilocks" calibers (.224 Valkyrie, fast-twist .22-250, etc) though, I wouldn't take shots past 250...

Completed a 9mm PCC! Now to aim it?

I have both. I have 2 1x Vortex Spitfires, and 2.5 and 3x PA prisms, a Burris 3X Prism, and a IOR Valdada 3x prism. RDS usually have some "burst" to them, for me, though some are better than others. Prisms can be adjusted so your sight picture is clear.

    Perfect vs One Gun

I made a 600 meter shot with my M4 with iron sights from "rice paddy prone" in 2002, but it was on a SAW target (meant to replicate a small bunch of soldiers half concealed). I have several different 5.56mm or .223 rounds that will work fine on deer now, but I'm much better equipped these days...
