    Things to Not Do

After this thread opened I discussed the subject of parking lot confrontations with a friend who is a security supervisor for a couple big box stores locally. His suggestions, Plan your shopping, use their online shopping service, have your groceries delivered or they'll load them for you in...

    Things to Not Do

Found an article about this incident in Bearing Arms by Bob Owens. The man was never closer than ten feet and was passing by when he asked for a light. She pulled a gun and verbally threatened to kill him. A woman and child were in her line of fire. Definitely on my list of things not to...

    Things to Not Do

I find it interesting that it's felt the defendants statements would have no Influence on the outcome considering concerns regarding posts made on social media nowadays and recommendations to never make a statement without legal representation. Not knowing what evidence the video showed or...

    Things to Not Do

The original post was good as a discussion starter but other than court results gave few details of the actual incident. Two things I will take from this, the first being that all indications are that the woman couldn't keep her mouth shut and second, if she did hire a competent defense...

    Things to Not Do

I don't think she is so concerned about just walking through the parking lot as she is about getting cornered between cars while she's loading groceries and trying to get two small children buckled in. Do the circumstances such as she's referring too verses a single adult that can simply walk...

    Things to Not Do

Would the woman in the original post have been in legal trouble if she had told the man "Stop, I have a gun" without producing it? Would she have to wait until he physically attacked her to produce and use her weapon? Question from my daughter in law looking for a solution to parking lot...

Handgun, Rifle, PCC, or Shotgun for Home Defense?

Realize that this is straying from the original post but I recently installed light switches for a retired couple that they control from their phone. They can now control selected lighting throughout the house without leaving the room and while this was primarily for convenience it would be a...

    Things to Not Do

As said earlier there is no current legal definition of personal space however one needs to remember that for the past five years the people have been inundated with enforced mandates, policies, and recommendations concerning "personal space" on both public and private properties. The law may...

Do Thermal and Night Optics Have a Role in Home Defense?

Gaining time to access the situation should be a goal in any defensive situation. If some sort of vision aid allows one extra seconds then it should be considered. I would imagine it could be helpful where you were observing a larger area such as a homestead or possibly a larger suburban...

Man stabs cop to death before armed civilian stops him.

Something to remember, the NIH shows that in 2021 22.8% of the population was considered to have a mental, behavioral, or emotional disorder. That's roughly one in four. Of that number around half were receiving treatment services. Numbers to keep in mind anytime you approach someone unknown.

    Questions on Scenario

Something like this is a great opportunity for one to reevaluate their plans concerning self defense strategies. You've obviously had a chance to reconsider your unarmed attendance at late night diners so use the encounter as an education. Suppose he stopped and asked for money or followed you...

Hypothetical: What would you carry, concealed?

I tried to find that chart again to see what it was using as a standard, no luck. Was under the impression they were using MC as their measurement but that's just an assumption on my part. Thanks.

Hypothetical: What would you carry, concealed?

Just poking around the Sabre site they show of levels of bear spray at 1.0 - 2.0% dog attack spray .35 - 1.0% self defense level 1, up to. 5% self defense level 2, 0.5 to 1.0% self defense level 3, 1.0 to 1.33% for whatever it's worth.

Hypothetical: What would you carry, concealed?

OC spray and you better keep it in hand because a dedicated attack is not going to be proceeded by a warning bark and both dogs are going to be involved quickly, probably within a couple seconds. You should be prepared for a fight with the owner if you shoot their dog or at the least a lawsuit...

Electronic Warfare comes to home security systems.

This thread is a good reminder that there is no single solution to security. Electronic alarms, cameras, etc are simply tools in our toolbox. Most security measures can be defeated given time and perseverance so it's important to have a layered plan.

An Actual Use of Force incident for Discussion

Why, when the car was discovered missing, were the police not notified instead of knocking on doors? Not an accusation of wrongdoing just curious.

Concealed Carry at Public Events? (Moved from Legal)

Attendance at non gun friendly events and locations is a part of my daily life and one I'm unwilling to surrender at this time plus I consider it good practice for my situational awareness and observation skills. A can of pepper spray and a small "Stop the Bleed " kit in my pocket and I'm ready...

Sit Awareness / Self defense video

I don't know how to link this but watched a good video by Rob Chadwick, former head of the FBI tactical training program at Quantico titled " Six Critical Survival Strategies for a Self Defense Incident " on the USCCA website. Good information and some interesting FBI stats. A Google Search...

    .44 Mag Rossi R92 question

I've had 2 of the little Rossi's, both stainless, 16" barrels, one in .357 and a 44 mag. The .357 was an earlier model and jammed with most everything. Traded it off. The 44 is a newer model and works well with everything including swc. I usually buy thru a local gun shop and he let me make a...
