New or next build ... rot ro! Bring on your inner Sgt Harper of 'Sharpes Rifles'!

Recoil is not that bad on these. It is shooting about 1250 grains of lead with about 280 grains of powder. My standard 4 bore load is 1700 grains of lead with a 450 grain powder charge. 4 bore has a lot more recoil and it is still entirely manageable. I have never gotten a bruised shoulder from it.

Would you own a 300 Win Mag if you didn't hunt? Details inside, I need your opinion

Nothing wrong with getting a 300 Winchester Magnum if you don't hunt. I have a 4 bore and I don't hunt. It uses 450 grains of powder and 4 ounces of lead with each shot. Recoil is about ten times as much as a 300 Winchester Magnum. Probably more. But it is a fun gun to shoot and I like it!

5 shot revolver enough against 5 robbers

Most likely bad guys are going to run after the first shot. If you are facing 5 bad that are armed and decide to shoot it out, then you are probably dead before you can fire 5 shots.

    Refinish or not

That means that it has no monetary value at all and should be of no consideration in what you do with it.

    Is TAPCO back?

Used to be that how cool you were depended on how many Tapco products you had stuck on your SKS. A lot of guys were working hard to fit the whole catalog on a gun. No need for Tapco anymore. Now everyone has a AR-15 and there are dozens of companies making silly aftermarket clutter for them. You...

    Writer's influence

Too many books when I was a teenager made me want to get a 4 bore rifle. I got one now and I have so much fun with it that I am building another.

    Standard Manufacturing SAA .45

That is laser engraving. It is rather well done, but still obviously a laser. The engraving is only $1000 extra. Hand engraving with that much coverage will cost many times that price.

Flitz on a old blue gun? just a thought

Flitz and Mothers and such are the preferred products of Bubba the gunsmith. Nothing screams out "I have no idea what I am doing" like Flitz and Mothers. Polishing a gun right requires time, equipment, and skill. Flitz and Mothers is a great way to show the world that you have none of those.

Henry 25th anniversary deluxe engraved rifle

That one is obviously machine engraved. $4000 won't even get you close to hand engraving on that, especially if the price includes the rifle.

Rarest/strangest firearm you've handled or shot?

Just got back from the shooting range. Brought a 4 bore rifle. Tried a 500 grain powder charge for the first time. I think I found my limit with that gun.

    Safe Queen Story Time

If I spend thousands of dollars on a fancy gun I am going to get as much use out of it as I can. The idea of getting a nice gun and letting it sit in a safe forever makes no sense to me at all.

    basic 10/22 for $300+ really?

Where did this idea come from that working man is all a brunch of losers that can't afford anything? I go to work and even have a job that requires work boots. But I can afford really expensive guns. Quite a lot of the working man guys are bringing in some real money.

Are the Effects of Recoil Cumulative?

I shoot a 4 bore fairly frequently. That thing is getting close to 400 ft/lbs of recoil energy. I spent 30 years building up a tolerance to big rifles before I got a 4 bore. I have never had any ill effects from shooting it. I don't even get a bruised shoulder. But then I have never fired more...

Antis believe suing gunmakers will end mass shootings

You are wrong. They actually do believe this. Have to realize that there is no rational thought involved in the gun control fantasy.

    Shooting a Collectable

Spend $5000 on a gun and won't shoot it because it might lose some value. Then spend $70,000 on a pickup truck and a few years later it is broken down wreck worth almost nothing. And then complain that you cannot afford a $5000 gun. $25,000 for a gun that you shoot often and enjoy is money well...

    Shooting a Collectable

I have a collectible gun worth about $30,000. I am making an effort to wear it out.
