No problem Bob. My name is Bob and my wife tells me I'm wrong all the time. The one I sent off was indeed smaller. Can't say they all were, only the one I have personal experience with. It was built in '68 I believe. I have a 3 screw 41 magnum built in 1970 and it is on the large frame...

I just sent off a mid sized 3 screw 357 of 1967 or 1968 to Andy Horvath to rebuild it into a 41 Special. Now the wait begins. And I can tell you that the 3 screw I sent was of a smaller frame than that of the New Model. I have both and the size difference is noticeable.

Are the 3 screw models physically smaller than the new model varieties? If I was going to compare their overall size are the older ones smaller? Say a 357 mag in both old and new model.

Is Andy Horvath still turning out great revolvers? Have a 6 1/2" 357 I'd like him to turn into a 4" 41 special.

Finally made it back out today. This time I was 12 yards away. (roll eyes) Remington 210 jacketed softpoints out of my Blackhawk 4 5/8". Ave of 5 shots 1278. Out of my 20" Marlin rifle 1689. My reloads with Montanabulletworks 220 gr. was 1305. Shooting off a benched sandbag both were...

I just picked up a Marlin 1894 in 41 Magnum. Anything special I need to know?

Maybe? I was about 12 feet, although in both loads it was flattening primers. Hodgdon data shows that load at about 1550. Ill recheck standing a bit farther back and see how that does.

I ran two groups of 5 rounds each over the chronograph. The average out of my 4 5/8" Ruger Blackhawk was 1776 fps. Yes, you read that right. It's a stout load. I also checked a load of Montanabulletworks 220 gr. loaded over 19.7 gr. of Hodgdon 110. That's just a tad over their starting...

Just a little more on the 41. I picked a new blued version up in 4 5/8" for a super price as a project gun for Andy Horvath. I still want to shoot magnums out of it so didn't go with a medium frame. Also ordered some 265 grain pills from Montanabulletworks with gas checks. Loaded some up...

Just picked up a blued Ruger New Model Blackhawk in 41 mag. Is the grip frame plastic or aluminum? Doesn't appear to be steel. What is it?

Ok, a question for you guys who have a Andy Horvath Blackhawk. In speaking with him it appears his speciality is taking a medium frame (357) gun, re-boring it to 41 special. My question to the masses is, have anyone here just had him shorten the barrel to 4", crown it, and rework the grip...

    Your Funnest Pistol or Revolver

Funnest? Ruger Super Single Six. Stainless, 5 1/2" barrel with a 22 mag cylinder. Shot it a gazillion times. Could toss a pop bottle in the air and break it everytime. We'd sit up in the barn and as pigeons approached, I could shoot them on the wing. That was fun.. Belt fed autos were...

Are revolvers obsolete for police work?

I started out with an L frame on my side and a J frame in my armpit. Made the switch to an auto when forced to. S&W 4567 45acp for years. Still carried the J frame in my arm pit and would for the rest of my career. Then on to a glock 23. Plastic guns have no soul. Still like revolvers but...
