I just sent off a mid sized 3 screw 357 of 1967 or 1968 to Andy Horvath to rebuild it into a 41 Special. Now the wait begins. And I can tell you that the 3 screw I sent was of a smaller frame than that of the New Model. I have both and the size difference is noticeable.

Are the 3 screw models physically smaller than the new model varieties? If I was going to compare their overall size are the older ones smaller? Say a 357 mag in both old and new model.

Ill answer my own question in case anyone is curious. I spoke with him today. He is still accepting work. 6 - 8 month time frame depending on what your having done.

Is Andy Horvath still turning out great revolvers? Have a 6 1/2" 357 I'd like him to turn into a 4" 41 special.

Maybe? I was about 12 feet, although in both loads it was flattening primers. Hodgdon data shows that load at about 1550. Ill recheck standing a bit farther back and see how that does.

I ran two groups of 5 rounds each over the chronograph. The average out of my 4 5/8" Ruger Blackhawk was 1776 fps. Yes, you read that right. It's a stout load. I also checked a load of Montanabulletworks 220 gr. loaded over 19.7 gr. of Hodgdon 110. That's just a tad over their starting...
