Hello all, been away for a little while. Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe! Finishing up my 350 Legend AR build I started this past winter and want to make sure everything is in check and safe. Do I need to get all three of the gauges: Go, No go, and field gauge? Or do I only need...

Cheap deer rifle: CVA Scout or Savage Axis?

Thanks for all the feedback so far! Glad to hear you like it in 44, what kind of accuracy are you getting with it? That’s all I’m really looking for is a utilitarian rifle to deer hunt with. Not wanting to be anything fancy as it’s going to be in the elements, and is more a tool than a safe...

Cheap deer rifle: CVA Scout or Savage Axis?

Decided I’m finally going to get a cheap deer rifle to take advantage of future gun seasons here in Ohio when I can’t bow hunt as much. Being Ohio we are limited to straight wall cartridges. So I’ve got the caliber narrowed down to probably being 350 Legend and got the rifles down to the...

    Primer choices

I tend to pick up whatever is a good deal or on sale and available. Right now I’ve got a mix of CCI, Winchester and Remington for small pistol. And a mix of CCI, Winchester, Remington 7 1/2, and federal match for small rifle. I’d say I’m partial to CCI. But having a mix let’s me experiment with...

    Good Backup BCG

For an inexpensive option BCG I would look into Toolcraft or maybe even a PSA premium. For a premium back up BCG id look at BCM or SOLGW.

    Reloading Coated vs Jacketed bullets?

Nope just whatever the company decides to use or brand the bullets around. IE blue bullets are blue, acme are usually red, Etc.. For an inexpensive option you could check out Brazo’s precision bullets. I’ve got a thread I started doing some testing/ load development on their 9mm bullets...

    Ceramic Car Wax

I have no idea if it would work or not but my understanding is adding a polish such as NuFinish to media in a vibratory tumbler is the micro abrasions help to clean the cases and help prevent the cases from corrosion/tarnish

My journey into loading and testing coated lead bullets for 9mm!

Appreciate the advice and replies so far. I apologize for the delayed response. Wanted to wait to get to a computer as I did not want to do a lengthy reply from my phone! The rest used in this testing is not padded. Its a simple DIY rest made out of scrap wood and threaded rods. I cut a notch...

    Soot on outside of case

When using a co-witness red dot, do you ignore the front sight?

^this, especially the part about a defensive rifle and using the RDS as a giant ghost ring. but I’ll also add, sight in your irons and optic separately. Ideally your red dot should be close to your front sight when getting a proper sight picture using rear sight, optic and front sight. As...

Light or heavy 223 bolt action.

Definitely, the 12fv is hard to beat for the money. Especially if you get it when it’s in sale and there is a rebate! I wish the KRG Bravo was an option for savage!

Breaking in a new rifle or handgun

Picked up a savage 12fv in 223 not long ago. They way I did it as followed using a coated single piece rod: get the gun home and take the action out of the stock and give it good cleaning. Using hoppes no. 9 in the barrel, bore brush and then Followed by multiple dry patches. took it to the...

Light or heavy 223 bolt action.

Depends on my purpose I suppose. I recently picked up a savage 12fv in 223. ( 26” heavy barrel) 1. Because I wanted a cheaper Yet accurate gun to tinker with load development principles and to document it. And 2. I knew I didn’t plan on walking much with it. Mainly being a range gun and if...

Why is Noveske so expensive comparing to the other brands

OP, may have been addressed already but starting with an intended purpose and ballpark budget may help you narrow down the infinite amount of choices! What do you plan to use the AR for? Home defense, range toy, take carbine classes and run it hard, competition, duty use, or Try and fit...

    Case capacity effect on pressure?

I had a similar situation loading 223 in LC brass using H4895 and hornady 69gr bthp. Hodgdon says 26grs is a compressed load but I could start to feel it being compressed before then and I was seating a little longer than the listed OAL. That’s where I stopped, haven’t had a chance to test it...
