    Criterion, McGowan or Shilen barrel?

I had a 26" Shilen Varmint Taper in 308 Win (not select match) that shot very well, but I thought I had hurt it. Replaced it with a matching Criterion 28" Bull of my 300 WM and they both shoot lights out. Turns out my Shilen is OK (already had my Criterion) and my problem was bad boxes of 178...

    357 maximum vs 350 legend

With an Encore you can push 357 Max to 60,000 psi and the brass just falls out. And loading long gets us back case volume lost. Yeah purpose built bullets from Hawk or Fury for hunting can be expensive but you can taget shoot with others.

What are your 308 win loads with mili/lapua brass?

I now shoot 155 Lapua Scenars over 45.3gr of Shooters World Precision Rifle powder. Couple thousandths off the lands. Slmost 2900 fps and same Bc as 175 SMK. This combo I shot my personal best group ever at .25". Also shot sub .5" on both sides during load workup.

    Snub Nose Problem

My H110 loads were max loads from Hodgdon and heavy crimp. And shoot wonderfully from my 4" 66. Kept investigating and Inow suspect my chambers are out of round and uneven. So not necessatily one shared high spot down the length of a chamber. And thus it locks up. Gonna call Taurus Next day or...

    Snub Nose Problem

Just measured the Cylinder to Barrel gap and at 0.006", so that does not appear to be a problem.

Rifle brass - Starline vs Hornady

Not sure of your caliber... But I recently compared my Lapua Brass to the Hornady Brass I was using. The head of Hornady is not really softer. When I measured the brass the extractor groove was wider and deeper resulting in less brass in the head which results in shorter life and looser primer...

Are some powders "cooler" than others

Yes powder heat can be used to calculate expected barrel life. In my 300 Win Mag RL26 which is very high heat can produce very high velocities is otherwise safe pressure levels at the expense of barrel life. Even when loaded down to same velocity H1000 will give an expected 50-100% increase in...

    Snub Nose Problem

I have a Taurus 605 and a 4" Taurus 66. The 605 has I believe powder fouled with both the max load of H110 and more mid-range load 8.9gr of Unique behind 125gr XTP bullets. The result is very hard extraction. The one load I have working OK is 11.9 or Major Pistol from Shooter's World. Just...
