Makarov Slide Closing On Mag Insert

It happens with or without the mag, forcefully ramming the mag well with the palm of my hand does it 9 times out of 10

Makarov Slide Closing On Mag Insert

I have a new-to- me ‘86 production Bulgarian Makarov… upon seating a magazine with the slide locked to the rear; and ensuring it is seated with the heel of my palm; the slide runs home- stripping the top round from the magazine and otherwise functioning as intended. Is this supposed to happen ?

    Stripping Bluing

Unsure if this needs to go here, or under “Gunsmithing” (moderator, will you please move as needed- thank you). I’ve had good success with vinegar stripping finish on multiple handguns in the past, but I’ve always detail stripped the firearms in question. I intend to do the same to my...

    Makarov PM

I like the design how it is, to be honest. I like the heel mag release, like the odd safety/decocker, and like the capability of the slide slamming home upon forcefully seating a mag. Bit better grips, few spare reliable mags; perhaps a refinish down the road… I’d be fine.

I’ve access to *almost* a full machine shop… lathe, mill, drill press, etc. I know I’m out of practice with double action firearms… but Lord… you could hang a Chevy Silverado off the double action trigger with complete confidence of it not going off

    Makarov PM

I must say… never again. Never. I almost boxed it up and carted it back to the LGS… now to find a holster, better grips, spare mags, and a mag pouch.

Detail strip- everything except the extractor (couldn’t get it out)… to clarify my earlier post…. I paid $160 originally for the M70, swapped it and $100 for the Makarov. So $260 OTD for a Mak and 50rds of steel case.

    Makarov PM

Horse traded with my LGS for a Bulgarian Makarov- $100 bill and my Zastava M70 ($160 otd). Finish is a bit rough, and I almost lost my religion while detail stripping it (NEVER AGAIN !!!), but I already like it. He threw in a box of Russian 9x18 while we were at it. Recommendations on holsters...

    Curio & Relic Carry Piece

Not for years Thomas… mainly Wranglers and a button down on the town or a untucked polo at work.

    Curio & Relic Carry Piece

I originally purchased it under the absolute delusion that it’d be a serviceable pocket piece- or failing that; a passable appendix IWB carry… unfortunately, no. My love handles disagree with such assumptions. It’s absolutely spectacular for what I imagine it was designed for- a military...

    Curio & Relic Carry Piece

Let’s see if I can dig ‘em out my friend… they’re here… somewhere. Sidearm in question is a Zastava M70 that I’m in the middle of stripping/polishing… everyone here knows I’m the living definition of “procrastination”… I’ll get to finishing it… eventually. Maybe when the 80hr work weeks ease up...

7.62 Yahweh cartridge, is anyone familiar with it?

This… this is comedy gold. To touch briefly on it… suppose that YHWH did indeed give you such an idea… ‘tis no different than any other idea that mankind has churned out thru the expanse of time- He does not impart such an idea to you; but merely the ability and capacity for such- similar to...

    Curio & Relic Carry Piece

A bit of clarification may be in order… I’m personally not referencing 100 year old Saturday night specials… I’m mainly referring to S&W and IJ top breaks, Colt/Browning/FN automatics, milsurp, etc.

    Curio & Relic Carry Piece

Curio & Relic Carry How many here have carried (or *do* carry) an EDC piece that would be considered as a C&R firearm (outside of the obligatory Colt Gov’t and select Smith/Colt revolvers) ? Outside of spring changes, cleaning, and vetting for ammo; what was your process for carry (or what...

duty size gun carry for ccw

Of course… but as always- the Colt Vest Pocket in your back pocket beats the 1911 Gov’t in your glove box. If you have the dedication to actually carry it ? Sure, have at it. Most however… do not.

Setting And Enforcing Your Boundaries In Public

Mmm. I am employed at our local Stop N’ Rob… we’ve one particular local woman who has a lifetime ban from our property, no questions asked. Loitering, panhandling, theft, assault, list goes on. For whatever unfathomable reason, she always gets her transportation to drop her… guess where ? At our...
