    2400 and acme

Thanks for the insight. I was worried about the coating stripping/ melting off, but that doesn't seem to be an issue since I don't plan to drive them that hard. I think the site said 16 brinnel.

    2400 and acme

I bought some acme "lipstick" SWC in .44/ 240, and.357/ 158. Due to store shelves being emptied, I only have alliant 2400 powder left. Would this combo work? What powder would you recommend when the stores are restocked. In my Blackhawk and carbine, XTPs and 2400 work great, but for long...

    New and confused

Thanks, I'm planning to do some 357/38 loads to. It's nice to know I can use the same powders effectively between the calibers I use regularly, saves a little room for more goodies on the ever shrinking bench!

Success! All my test loads worked and I still have all my fingers! The SBH liked the 2400, kept all rounds within the 8 ring at 25yds, couldn't tell any difference in primers. The universal powder didn't burn completely, had a few flakes when I dumped the brass, but I plan to stick with the...

Thanks random8, the crimping is gonna take some tries I think, my test rounds look pretty close to some factory loads i have though. Looking forward to some range time to see how I did...come on Friday!

    New and confused

I honestly had a good time just setting up the press and dies, much easier than I expected. As long as all goes well with these first few rounds, I will work up something accurate for my SBH as well as the Henry. Then maybe expand into 357 too.

    New and confused

Not only new to reloading, this is my first venture into forums. I think I need to wander around some more, something tells me I'm missing alot of useful info thats available and may answer some questions I haven't come up with yet! Thanks for the info and the patience!

Thanks Barry. Wasn't sure what to expect so I loaded with both. With the low powder charges, I thought I would be safe with my primer choices, but being a newbie, thought I should ask.

Is there a better puller than the lyman hammer? I made a few dummies with no primer or powder to setup the dies and found the hammer a bit of a pain...

    New and confused

Decided to go with universal and alliant2400, no unique on the shelf. Loaded 5- 2400 with cci300 primer, and 5- 2400 with wlp primer, then did the same with the universal powder. All 10 are the listed starting weight for each powder used. Am I going to see major differences with the primers...

    New and confused

I found the rifle and pistol load data is very similar for the 2400 powder. I'm sure the actual results for accuracy and velocity will vary, but just starting out, I'm more concerned with just getting it done safe, and just learning to use the equipment correctly. I'm SURE of only 1 thing...I'm...

Thanks for welcoming me to THR and all the advice. I hope to get a couple put together for the weekend. I'll stick with the hornady manual for the xtp.

I'll try some Unique loads too. Not necessarily looking for powder puff, but want to enjoy more range time to teach my nephew to shoot it. Hoping for decent results in the Henry and the SBH.

    New and confused

I'm new to reloading. Bought a couple newer manuals, but some loads listed are confusing me. The lyman manual lists 17.8gr blue dot as a starting load for 44mag 180gr jhp, while the hornady manual lists 17.3gr blue dot as a max load. Neither list a magnum primer. With coflicting info like this...
