For my 2 cents, I'd look for one of the 75th anniversary MK IVs, they're beautiful, look like an original but are easy to clean. My ffl had one but it's for his trap club raffle. It was right at 500 I believe.
The thing is, they're allowing illegals to carry in Chicago. As a licensed concealed carry holder from an adjoining state, I'm NOT allowed. I have to lock my weapon in my vehicle and be helpless against illegals who are allowed to carry.
PSA has Norma MHP 108 grain for 7.99 a box of 20. It's free shipping over 10, so you can't beat the price. At 1312 fps and 413 ft lb of energy, they're worth a shot. They run in my Walther pps m2, and the 45s run in my 1911s.
Wednesday my local ffl ordered a tisas 1911 in 9mm for me, costed me 5 dollars less than if I'd have ordered it from PSA after shipping and transfer. Yesterday I ordered 1,000 rounds of cci 124 grain brass 9mm.
The guys on handgun TV did a test and left the choke tube in for 1 shot. Surprisingly there was no damage to the tube or barrel, but they highly recommend against trying this at home.
Shooting illustrated did an article on one a couple years ago, the accuracy was amazing. At 25 yards it shot smaller groups than so many pistols costing 3 or 4 times as much did at only 15 yards. It's definitely on my short list of guns I want but don't really need.
I just ordered 200 rounds of ACC 308 from PSA, it came to 16.99 a box delivered. Last week I got 200 rounds of norma mhp 9mm, it was on sale for 7.99 a box of 20 with free delivery.
A ruger MK IV is another great choice and often on sale for around the same price as the g44. The g44 is a blast but not as accurate as the ruger and I learned the hard way if you get a g44 clean it often and never shoot unclad ammo. After completely gumming up the first barrel, I'd cleaned it...
If I lose my local family owned store, I'm driving 20 miles to support a corporate store. How about the little old ladies who can't get to the big store. I spend a little extra to keep it available for those who really need it. Same with my ffl.
I always give my local guy a chance first, and if his price is within 25 or so more than it would cost to ship to him and do a transfer I give him my money. It's for the same reason I shop at a small local grocery, I don't want to lose them.
Grabagun.com has decent prices and unlimited shipping for 12.99 for ammo. SG ammo usually has free shipping on bulk, but their prices are a bit high these days.
What a great excuse to upgrade! Rise armament has a decent trigger on sale for 89 right now. If you want an awesome trigger, you can find giessele SSA enhanced 2 stage triggers for 150 pretty often.
I think palmetto still has the vortex 1-8x24 lpvo on sale, with the mount included, it was just under 350 tax and all. I really like it, on 1 power with the power on its just like a red dot, and at 8 it's really clear and looks good.
