Why Should I get a CHL in Texas.....???

Quote: "Personally, I've let mine lapse simply because mine's only good for the 5% of my time spent when I'm not at home, work, or in my vehicle." Seems to me that the 5% may be when you need it most - at the ATM, at the local "Stop & Rob", etc. Also, if you work in Houston or drive in...

CWP question for LEO's and experianced,

I use the words: "I am carrying pursuant to my license and my weapon is holstered on my right hip." Several LEOs and instructors have told me that "gun" is an action trigger word [no pun intended] for them, so I don't use it.

    FNP-9

Guess there's not many FNP-9 fans around right now. I really like mine. It is very controllable, shoots better than I can, and fits my hand nicely. You'll probably have trouble finding a holster in either Kydex or leather - I did. Finally got a paddle holster from BladeTech. Around here...

    Would you be offended?

I'm with you. Don't know if I would have been quick enough to think of it, but a "Please mind your own business" sure seems like a politely appropriate response.

IWB vs OWB for HOT weather carry?

Houston area [is that hot enough?] and no problem with the OWBs - after you get past the whole untucked, baggy shirt routine, of course. FWIW, I become aware of my IWBs much sooner - 3-4 hours - but generally can handle the OWB all day.

    Smith or Taurus?

Taurus Ownership From Taurus' website: "In the meantime, Smith & Wesson had been purchased by a conglomerate named Bangor Punta. In 1970, Bangor Punta also purchased 54% of Taurus. Thus, the two companies became "sisters". Smith & Wesson never owned Taurus. They were both independent...

    Glock 'shortage'?

Checked Davidson's and GunEngine and they had goose eggs for Glock 17's except the 10 rounders. There seems to be a fair number of NIB Glock 17s listed on GunBroker in the $479 plus shipping range. Haven't heard or read of any Glock shortage.

Help! Need a year-round carry snubby

I'm in the Houston area [doesn't get much more muggy and hot than here] and have found the 642 to be the one gun that is consistently "carryable" almost regardless of wardrobe [638 works as well]. If OWB is an option, a 2" or 3" 64 is a much more shootable revolver, IMO. I sold my 340PD since...

    Used glock or CZ?

Two issues to consider Couple of things to consider. First, for concealed carry, the CZ is very heavy, IMO. Second, Glock has a HUGE aftermarket support system for holsters, sights, springs, magazines, etc. I'm sure you'll hear opinions to the contrary, but I think the Glock 19 is hard to...

    M10 - M64 - M60 Prices?

Looks like a good value on a 64: http://www.ivanhoeoutlet.com/shop/index.php?action=item&id=112&prevaction=category&previd=5&prevstart=0 I know you are focusing on revolvers, but have you considered a 9 mm semi-auto? My daughter, 26, prefers her Glock 26 to her J frame. Just a thought.:)

    Another CCW Question

"Concealed" I believe you have a moral obligation to protect "you and yours." Keeping you weapon concealed is the key. Also, work with your legislators to eliminate provisions that don't make sense. Here in Texas, we have improved the concealed carry laws several times, each time expanding...

    Smith 6906 opinions needed

I've had both. I think the 3913 is one of the great all time 9mm's. Put Hogues, non finger groove, on the 6906 and it felt HUGE. The trade-off for the extra rounds wasn't worth it to me.

    Dilemma That Needs A Solution

N frame 45 ACP How about this: http://nas4.atlanta.gbhinc.com/GB/045919000/45919441/pix2042044719.jpg If you can get past the lock issue: N frame, square butt, 45 ACP, 4" tapered barrel. A "manly" revolver without being the hand cannons that are appearing now.:)

A hole in the S&W Revolver line?

649? My 25 year old daughter has a 649 in her bedroom. While not 3 inches, the heavier weight, and the SA option, allow her to shoot it quite well. Although she does even better with her Glock 26. The newer 2.25" barrel .357 model of the 649 may be a great compromise...

    Eagle Grips are awesome!!

Nice I've also been very pleased with several "Secret Service" grips from Eagle. It's also nice to be able to speak to a real person when you call.

    decisions, decisions

Get concealed license Whatever weapon you choose, IMHO it is important for all of us to be counted among the ranks, so to speak. Ultimately it ID's you as a good guy to the "law." My Texas CHL has saved me from at least one traffic violation. But the really big plus is being safer and in a...

Where to find info/user comments on the S&W Model 431

I understand the 431 to be the "Centennial" or hammerless model while the 331 is a traditional hammer model. Both have been discontinued by S&W, I assume due to slow sales. Lots of different opinions about the 32 H&R Magnum round. Hope this is a start.:)

    Just bought me a 642!

Congratulations. If you're with pocket carry, you may want to check out Eagle's "Secret Service" grip in either rosewood or polymer. I love mine. They are very thin so if you have really big hands, they may not work for you.
