    Request load for Kel-Tec SU-16F

Thanks to all. I called the store I bought it from and spoke to the gunsmith. He suggested examining the muzzle crown. I took off the muzzle brake and to my eye it looked fine. But, for grins, I took a bronze 223 brush, put it in my drill, and spun it at the muzzle for a bit (yes, maybe a...

    Request load for Kel-Tec SU-16F

Thanks for the comments. I have tried different scopes (original was a Bushnell 1.5-4.5x32 with a pair of Vortex rings, now a 1-6x LPVO scope with a single piece mount) and same issue. All shooting on a shooting bag, sitting at a bench, 100 yards outdoors (the 25 yard shooting is indoors and...

    Request load for Kel-Tec SU-16F

I have a Kel-Tec SU-16F (website claims 1:7 barrel twist) that I am unable to get any group smaller than about 16" at 100 yards (all handloads). Bought the gun brand new just a couple months ago. I mainly use 55gr FMJ Campro bullets. I have tried loads with W748, BLC-2, Varget, IMR 4320, IMR...

    Power measure for stick powders

I second the use of Lee dippers for stick powders. I have both red and yellow sets and are my go-to method for flake & stick powders. Ball or spherical powders for pistol or small (223) rifle I use the Lee AutoDisk. Good enough for putting holes in paper or clanging steel for me (powder for...

    Shortening 45-70 cases.

I hunt in Michigan Zone 3 limited firearm with my Henry lever 45 Colt handloaded to +P. Works great on deer (3 for 3 so far!). I also own a few 45-70s and pondered shortening the case. While I have not done so yet, posters on other forums indicate that accuracy suffers greatly. To me, if...

    8x56r and H4350 vs ACC4350

It is my understanding that Load Data is a combination of other published data as well as what the Handloader Magazine staff/writers have developed. I've had a subscription for years and I like it. For example, my reloading manuals didn't have Varget for the 300 Savage even though I thought it...

    8x56r and H4350 vs ACC4350

Not answering your question, but I found limited data in "Cartridges of the World" (it has IMR 3031 with 198 and 206 gr bullets). I also have a subscription to "Load Data" and found info for W760, H4831, H4895, IMR 4064, and Varget. Load Data does not list H4350 so I personally would not use...

    Police Pistol Combat Shooting

My local club has Bullseye League on Mondays and PPC league on Wednesdays Sept-May. Most weeks I shoot at both. Getting to the point I much prefer PPC due to the holster and the different positions. I am not good shooting weak hand, and even after years of practice I often miss the entire...

180gr Hornady XTP for deer hunting via saboted muzzleloader

Appreciate all of the comments. Got some green sabots and sometime in the near future will take them to the range to see how they perform. I'm all set-up for this fall, so totally no rush on this. Maybe I'll try to trade them, or at least one box. Thanks!

180gr Hornady XTP for deer hunting via saboted muzzleloader

Good points. Guessing someone might want to trade. I actually have a package of green Hornady sabots, so after deer season I should try some out at the range to see how they group. I've had good groups at 100 yards with Hornady XTP 250gr and 300gr pistol bullets so I don't "need" to switch to...

180gr Hornady XTP for deer hunting via saboted muzzleloader

I recently came into two boxes of Hornady #44050 44 Cal 180gr XTP pistol projectiles. I am a reloader, but I don't own a 44 or reload for 44 caliber. I do own two 50 caliber inline muzzleloaders that I use for deer hunting. My current deer hunting load is 2x50gr equivalent IMR WhiteHots with a...

Colt New Service in .445 Eley

I own one of these. It has been reamed and I shoot cast lead projectiles (454) with Trailboss in 45 Colt cases. Been doing so for years. Good luck!

Berry's plated bullets and velocity maximum

This is probably a better question for Berry's directly, but I recently was able to find 123 gr projectiles for 7.62x39 (see https://www.berrysmfg.com/product/bp-762x39-312-123gr-sp ) They are rated as a maximum of 2000 ft/s. Looking at my reload data, the starting velocity (ex A1680) is 2260...

    Powder Recommendation

I'd consider TrailBoss, but I have read people using Blackhorn 209 in addition to Pyrodex. Volume to volume I'd assume Pyrodex as I believe Blackhorn is more energetic than black powder.

    Best shotgun manual

I'll be Debbie Downer and say I have not been impressed with Lyman 5th or BPI's manual overall. Others may roll their eyes but I'm mainly using the paper that came with my Lee Load-All as well as the free online stuff from the powder and wad manufacturers. Maybe it's like cartridge reloading...

What powder manufacturer do you use MOST often?

Like others, I use any powder that is available. At gun shows I'll pick up older containers at (hopefully) good prices. I haven't bought a new container of powder in many years. That being said, each caliber I reload for has it's "favorite" powder. 9mm - was W231 but now it's AA#5 45acp -...

    Accurate 2700 in 7.62x54R

A few years ago I got a good deal on a bunch of Accurate 2700 rifle powder. Found loads in the 1992 Accurate reloading manual and have been using it in my Mosin and SVT-40 for a while now (with 150 gr Hornady SP projectiles). Recently was going through my reloading books (I have lots!) and...

    Reloading for QUIET 12g birdshot?

Standard load disclaimers - don't do this! Well, I'm getting close. Loaded up a bunch of shells using my Lee dippers and a "square load". All of the 3.X loads were too loud for me. The 2.x ones were good. The 1.9 scoop of Pyrodex under 1.9 cc of #7.5 shot ended up melting the plastic hull...

Calling all 38 special and 357 mag loaders

Others have already said it above. For years I used the same dies and adjusted them when switching between 38 & 357. It became frustrating so I eventually bought another turret and picked up a used set of dies. Now I treat them like I would 9 mm or 45 acp - totally different calibers to load...
