Lyman 1200 DPS - Missing parts

Please disregard this post. I've been contacted by Lyman and they are providing me the missing parts.

Lyman 1200 DPS - Missing parts

Recently picked up an Lyman 1200 DPS digital powder dispense/scale. It's an older model, pre touch screen, put is un-used. The previous owner purchased it and stored it in his shop. Over the years, from being moved hither and thither, some of the small parts came up missing. Namely the cleaning...

    Oven drying a c&b revolver??!!

After several weeks of experimenting with different methods of cleaning and drying, I've determined that, for me, an 8/1 ratio of water and balistol seems to work best. The balistol cleans black powder residue surprising well, though I do use Gun Scrubber when I want to de-grease all of the...

    Hard lead vs soft

Got about 50# of lead ingots. Some from a lee mold others from a muffin tin. All ~ 1# each. These are rescues from a local metal salvager. No idea of the alloy of these ingots. When struck with the blunt side of a butter knife, some go “thud” and some do “dink”. Those are scientific terms, in...

    Car/Gun Security

I know that not every state is equal when it comes to gun laws, and while my state, MS, may be lacking in a whole lotta ways, I’m grateful for the 2A freedoms we enjoy here. I’ve worked every day for 22 years now in courthouses around the state. Until a few years ago, you could get fined for...

    Preloaded spare cylinders...thoughts?

Yes, lets not let this devolve, and instead bring it back to the basic question. What are the advantages or disadvantages of trying to maintain pre-loaded BP cylinders?

    Preloaded spare cylinders...thoughts?

I wholeheartedly agree wit you. A BP firearm is not the ideal solution for a SHTF scenario. And I'm not a die hard prepper, though I do keep a bug out bag on hand and a couple of boxes stashed in safe areas. However, the idea of a BP firearm appeals to me in a situation where long term survival...

    Preloaded spare cylinders...thoughts?

I may be coming into a couple of spare cylinders for my Pietta NMA. What are the pros and cons to pre-loading cylinders? Can loaded, un-capped cylinders be safely stored in a controlled environment for any length of time? I’m considering a black powder revolver, along with powder, caps, balls...

    Car/Gun Security

Thankfully in MS, with our Enhanced Concealed Carry Permit, there are very few places that I can’t go heeled. Of those few places that are GFZ where I might occasionally have need to visit, I try to plan said visits in advance and in those cases leave my CCW at home. On the very rare occasion...

    Small Ring Mauser Stock Options

Someone mentioned Boyd’s Stocks and I second them. You won’t find a mannlicher style among the offeings but they have several Monte Carlo stocks for the small ring mauser. They can be had unfinished so you can apply a traditional oiled finish if you prefer. I’ve built a couple of Howa action...

    Zeroing Pietta NMA

Just bought a pound of Triple 7 yesterday to try. Actual BP is nigh impossible to fine in my area and I hate paying hazmat S/H fees. 451 round balls were all I could find locally. 454’s I’ll have to order, or make myself. Unfortunately, I’m not set up to cast my own bullets, yet. I’ve also...

    Zeroing Pietta NMA

I’m working on load development for my Pietta NMA. Trying to get it’s 25 yard accuracy up a bit. Right now it’s shooting 4” groups at about 8 o’clock 5-6” from point of aim. I’ve about settled on 30 grains of FFFg with a .451 round ball. I’ve heard that using a filler such as grits or cream of...

    Oven drying a c&b revolver??!!

Took my NMA out for its first range trip yesterday. 26 shots and now it’s super dirty. I’m going to clean it today. I’ve got a 10/1 solution of water and balistol that I used for the initial cleaning and degreasing and had planned to just go that route again. However, I read on another forum...

    I broke my 1858

She’s a dirty girl. 26 shots, no misfires and only one slight cap jam. US Army “L” target at 25 yards with a center hold from a rest and I was hitting 5” low left with a 30 grain load of Goex FFFg behind a Traditions .451 round ball. Gunna need some sight work and probably a little load work to...

    Black Powder Load Data

I’m sure this has already made the rounds here, but it was new to me when I found it, so I thought I’d share. http://poconoshooting.com/blackpowderballistics.html Disclaimer: For informational use only. I do not endorse the methods or data provided by this website. NO NOT ATTEMPT!!

    I broke my 1858

I’ve heard of this, but haven’t found instructions, aside from a single sketchy YouTube video. My revolver’s Hand has a good hold on the base of its leaf spring. I’m not sure how I could remove it in order to put in a piece of bobby pin steel. May look into it though, especially if the...

    I broke my 1858

I’ve bent the leaf spring back where it should be applying plenty of tension once installed. However, the tension is still so weak that you can rotate the cylinder counter clockwise with almost no resistance. It will cycle, but if you cock the trigger with the muzzle pointed above 60 degree...

    I broke my 1858

Interesting solution. Unfortunately, the tools and expertise required are outside of my wheel house. At $4 a pop, I think I’ll just keep a couple of spares on hand. Or some bobby pins if I’m in a pinch.

    I broke my 1858

Thanks for the advice. I’ve got two replacements on order from Taylor’s and I’ve bent this one as much as I feel comfortable doing. It’s functional now, but engagement is poor. It’ll work for this weekends shoot.....maybe.
