RIA 1911 for $279 is a heck of a bargain!

I'm pretty sure that most, if not all, of the RIAs mentioned before are working just fine, weisse52. They might not have the same owners but I have seen quite a few posts with 5,000-10,000+ round counts with RIAs that are running just dandy w/o anything swapped but some springs. You basically...

The 1911 - is it because it's American?

I think it's because we're all idiots and buy the hype, myself. Great trigger? Yup! Points well? You betcha! Accurate if handled right? Boy howdy! Costs an arm and a leg for no real good reason? Absolutely! It's the current "flavor of the month" along with ARs, just like it was polymer...

    1911 Purchase part 2

Hear! Hear! And the huge resurgence in interest in the 1911 platform has only made this problem worse, IMO. It just about makes me puke when I see these ridiculous "semi-custom" 1911s going for well over a grand when all their parts just come from an assembly line anyway. :banghead: You wanna...

    1911 Purchase part 2

My issue with the TRP is that you're paying an extra $700 MSRP for an ambi-safety and skeletonized trigger when compared to a Sig GSR. Whoopie! GSR comes with everything that the TRP comes with while adding an all-model stainless slide and frame under the optional durable black...

    1911 Purchase

I feel that the Sig GSR will give you the most bang for your buck, IMO. You get all the checkered straps, stainless steel w/ optional matte coating, Novak night sights, beavertail hammer/safety set, match internals, zero MIM, and it's right about your price range.

    Best price on Glock 19?

Doh! Not with the night sights, sorry. :o I hear you on those local prices, ochmude. I have to drive for an hour and a half to get that price at the nearest Sportsman's Warehouse.

    Best price on Glock 19?

You shouldn't be paying more than $500 for a NIB G19.

    Best handgun under $100

Fully functional first Gen G17 with one hi-cap magazine (purchased the gun a few months before the ban lifted) and one 10-rounder for $100. I use it as my daily carry. What? ;)

Glock v. Rest of the Pistols

I chose "Glock" because you'll be pretty darn hard pressed to find the same combination of light weight, high capacity, soft shooting, reliability, ease of modification, accuracy, and accessory availability for the same price anywhere else in a platform as proven world-wide.

Which Name Brand Do You Own Poll

Kind of sad when the #1 LEO firearms manufacturer doesn't make the list... :p I voted Ruger but also own a Glock.

What if your defense weapon does not affect a criminal

Umm...head shots with 9mm tends to get the job done as well, last I heard. Corrected the post above for having added a very "Huh?!?" caliber.

What is the most accurate autoloader you own?

Both my G17 and P97DC can shoot better than anyone who has fired them yet. With that said, I would have to say my 7mm/223 TC Contender my dad gave me a while back is pretty damn accurate even in my sloppy, distinctly unworthy hands.

What is wrong with the 1911 design?

I'm sorry, but my scorecard is showing a landslide to Ol' Slabsides in the red, white and blue trunks. The european contender was doing good until 4 rounds ago when Slabby's coach told his boy to start gnawing on earlobes and throwing head butts...

    Local LEO's take out perp

I randomly heard this from a retired LEO some years ago when there was a discussion about "Why not just shoot them all?" in one of my classes. I might have mistakenly assumed that he wasn't an idiot in this regard, I guess. Of course, when you start doing drugs and/or drinking heavily, get...

What is wrong with the 1911 design?

I personally would love to see a modernized, simplified "new version" of the 1911. Keep the same shape, size, dimensions, whatever but make it with only as many parts as it really needs. Hell, they could even call it a 2011 or something. I like the 1911 fine but it's a way over-complicated...

    Ruger .380

The problem is that you have to patent something truly new for it to be effective. Combining a bunch of great ideas into one firearm is exactly that, not making something you can patent as unique.

Those crazy Europeans and the 9mm

It's because the 9mm Para load has been killing folks just fine for over 100 years, thanks. They also realize the benefits of the 9mm over the .45ACP like penetration of light cover, reduced recoil impulse, higher capacity magazines and lighter weapons.

    What about JKD?

I had a chance to take a seminar from James DeMile, one of the guys who worked extensively with Bruce while he was developing the concepts of JKD. Another great guy that you would never expect to be a deathmachine. JKD has a lot of really good "out of the box" concepts but it's basically a way...

    Are Ruger Pistols Underrated?

Absolutely. The only issue that Ruger has is that nobody will ever accuse them of being "cool". They're like that obvious Christian kid who carried a bible everywhere from back in high school. Earnest, forthright, and 100% dependable but you'll never see a herd of girls knocking down his door...

    Local LEO's take out perp

The #1 cause for work-related suicide is a LEO forced into using lethal force. Something to keep in mind. We're fairly easily pushed into killing due to survival instinct. We're not very well set up for dealing with the aftermath, however. I applaud their quick thinking and actions in...
