How full should a mag be for a home defense handgun?

Springs lose tension through the cycle of compression and decompression. Leaving it fully loaded (or unloaded) won't matter either way.

Do You Own A Gun Worth More Than Your Car?

Yes and no. My '05 F-150 Lariat, no. My beat-to-heck '96 F-150, yes. Might be worth a grand if someone really wanted the 351 from it. I've got a couple 1911's worth more than that.

AK's are cheap. HK's, not so much.

Gun control advocate has me tied up, need help

I don't want to speak for anybody, but I don't think Alex was saying that the only thing holding the UK back from a bloodbath is gun control.

    Springfield XD45 Reliability?

Just got an XD45 Compact, and it's been dead nuts reliable, and gives me cloverleafs at 7 yards if I do my part. I think the sights are set for a 6 o'clock (lollipop) hold, since if I cover the target I hit 3-4" high at 15 yards, but it's right on if I "dot the i". Edit: Dang, this thread is...

Two is one, one is none ... what's your approach to acquiring multiple pistols?

All mine are .45's: Three Dan Wesson 1911's, a Sig 1911, and an XD. I've had 9's and a few .40's, but all my shooting has some training purpose behind it. So if I don't carry a 9mm or .40, and I don't compete with 9mm or .40, why should I practice with 9mm or .40? But in the end, you should...

    major henderance to shooting!!!!

Dude, that sucks. At the ranges I've been a member at, you can park right near the firing line but you still have to hike out and set up your targets.

Black Wood Grips For A Sig?

You want the grips from the Equinox model. Best bet is to stay on top of Sigforum's classified section. Hogue makes some very nice wood grips if you're not dead set on diamondwood.

Selling a bad gun with a clean conscience

What guns are those? I know of several that say there should be a break-in period, but not that flat-out say they will jam.

    Glock 19 or 23: 9mm vs 40

Yeah, there's no perfect way to do it. You could shoot every caliber from a 5" barrel to get a good control group, and then you'd have people complaining that it wasn't realistic because nobody has a 5" 9mm or .40.

    9mm conversion on a govt' sized 1911. I SEARCHED !

.45 to 9mm is not really a cheap undertaking. You have to replace pretty much everything, which won't be drop-in parts either. If they are, go buy a lottery ticket. If it was easy enough to do you'd see a lot more of 'em.

    Glock 19 or 23: 9mm vs 40

The .45's all passed 12". And the HST expanded to over an inch! Just sayin'.... But seriously, I wouldn't base my choice solely on one ballistic gelatin test. But do what makes you happy. I think you need a 23, so you can shoot with .40 and carry .357 SIG if you're that worried about...

    Glock 19 or 23: 9mm vs 40

A much over-hyped statistic. Any of the Big 3 (9mm, .40, and .45) will suit your needs. If you're really concerned though, perhaps consider .357 SIG or 10mm. I personally carry a .45, but have realized that it doesn't really matter what you carry to the object on the receiving end. Whatever...

    The Serious Gun Owner

Some people have classic muscle cars or expensive European cars that never see the north side of 70 mph or never get driven at all. Some people have guns that are like that. In the end it doesn't matter; you can buy whatever you want for whatever reason you want. You may do as you darn well...

    Shotguns for Home Defense

Some of the best and most succinct advice I've seen. Very well said, and all 100% true! Any of the no-frills basic shotguns will not offer a noticeable advantage over another. The key is to practice, practice, practice and become familiar with your weapon. I'll also add that keeping your...
