85
I have a Taurus 85 Stainless that I bought a number of years ago. Was attracted to the nice bright stainless finish and the attractive price of $250 at the time.
It ended up having to go back to the factory no less than 3 different times (all on my dime, all Fedex priority overnight...
I can't speak to Rossi's because I've never owned one. I do however own an model 85 Taurus. It had to go back to the factory 3 times (all on my dime I might add at around $50 a pop). First problem was timing was too slow on double action causing off center primer hits and failure to ignite...
Hey Protoman, my advice is be careful man. Unfortunately there is a HUGE disparity in what the law says vs. what police officers will hassle you about. Not all police officers are fully conversant on the intricacies of firearms law like yourself. This can spell out big trouble or a situation...
I've only tried Brown Bear in 9mm with 115gn bullets, and I had really bad luck with it. I bought a case of it from AIM about 2 years ago. It looked good, but when I shot it it was really weak, and failed to cycle the slide sometimes on my Beretta 92. I tried it in my Ruger P89 with similar...
Locks
If only that were true. The P345 in 45ACP comes with an internal lock, along the the new 9mm SR9.
Sadly, I think it's only a matter of time before the GP100 and the SP101 get a lock.
Uh boy... if you think a Ruger 22 is hard to take apart, wait until you get ahold of a browning 22.
Seriously I don't think the Ruger's are that bad to take down. Use the pictoral websites posted here, and force yourself to do it two or three times when you get the gun. Indeed, they...
I have both a 23 and a KP-944.
There used to be 11 round mags for the P-944, they were known as P-91 mags, but they are no longer made. Only 10 rounders are available now. 11 rounds was pretty much the max the 944 could hold due to the width of the magazine and frame.
Here's the bottom...
I've done one. Be sure to keep it compliant, you'll need to add some US parts to it. 6 I believe. Most of those came with Choate stocks so there are 2 parts right there. Add a tapco G2 trigger, hammer and disconnector. That brings you up to 5. Then maybe go for a Tapco gas plunger or something...
One thing is for sure, I wouldn't let them in your home. From what I understand there is no obligation to do so as a C&R is NOT a business license but a collectors license.
Maybe this is a new harassment game they have going on to weed out as many potential C&R applicants as possible ala "We...
I have an early 90's Pre-Lock Stainless 85. I bought it NIB. It was the first revolver I owned. Unfortunately it came with slow timing. I was getting way off center primer hits and failures to fire when i fired it double action. Off to Taurus it went on my dime. When it came back the slow...
My vote is for the Ruger.
Believe it or not the 6 shot 4" Ruger is Lighter than the 6 shot 4" 686. Per each mfg. website the Smith is 40oz and the Ruger is 39 1/2oz.
IMO Ruger's are stronger than the 686 due to the size differential in the crane bearing surface. The Ruger is much less...
I'm starting to see a lot of stuff out there (components included) made by Magtech. What is the quality like compared to say Remington or Winchester?
I take it this is Brazilian stuff, no?
I got some once fired 38 special magtech brass from Wideners a while back. Seems to be pretty good...
I think my record was about 3 days straight with the tumbler running. Started it up in the shed and got real busy at work for a couple days. Remembered at 12:30am one night and ran out to turn it off. Now that was some shiny brass! :)
One more thing:
I must admit the new Davidsons special edition New Model Vaquero in 45 Colt without Ruger's "Color Case Finish" and Faux Ivory Stocks is one fine lookin' sixgun too.
So many choices!
You've noticed a big difference when you've hefted both revolvers. I've had a 357 New Model Blackhawk in stainless and it was a heavy beast. So much so that I sold it. Too heavy for the caliber IMO. It was a whopping 46 ounces with it's 4 5/8" barrel. Ruger has somewhat corrected this IMO by...
Let's see. The cheapest in stock factory new 22 Mag I can find at Midway is $7.99/50 for Remington softpoint.
The cheapest I can find factory new 32 S&W long is Aim Surplus for $6.95/50.

Low cost winner: 32S&W Long
As stated above...
One of the double edge swords of the smith revolver is the leaf main spring. The spring that gives the hammer it's, well.....spring.
The leaf spring gives those oh so smooth and consistant DA trigger pulls that smith is famous for. However, one weak point IMO is the screw that is used to...
I do not own any XD's..yet. The XD's I've handled and fired I've loved. I really want one, but, until Springfield changes their insane policy of not selling most XD parts to the public I will not buy one. I refuse to send a pistol overnight at the cost of $40 each way for some guy to spend 5...
