Did they say/do anything about the plum coloration of the receiver?

My H015-44 rifle's receiver is "plummed" just like that. It's also a very low serial number; less than 50. Another interesting note; the checkering on the fore-end wraps completely around the bottom. It is not like that on my 45-70 and 38/357 models.

I have that same gun. It was my grandfathers everyday carry gun, so, it’s a bit more worn than yours. I admired it my whole life growing up, and especially after seeing him shoot it one day when I was still a boy! I’m still impressed when I remember how accurate he was with that snub nose!
