I have a NM M1A and a NM M1. Both are fine shooters. I think the M1 fits me better because I can get my left hand (nonfiring hand) into better position; with the M1A, the magazine gets in the way.
And don't tell me I could use a 5rd flush mag in the M1A; I might as well use a garand and...
All I have shot thru my M1A is surplus -- over 11,000 rounds of it (I got into this hobby when 1K of portuguese was $135 shipped). I wore out a Loaded barrel, replaced it with a standard barrel. In all that time, I cannot recall a single FTF.
hmmmm, after doing some reading, it appears installing a competition hammer is quite a bit more tricky on a decocker-version SP-01 than on a safety version or a safety-version CZ-75. Maybe I'll just leave it to the professionals.
I've had a Glock 20, and it was a great pistol, but I'd rather have a 10mm in a steel pistol to soak up that recoil. Given EAA Witness quality and customer service issues, I'd really really like to see CZ make at 10mm SP-01.
Well, I made the mistake of fondling an SP-01 Tactical at the gunshop today, and it followed me home. Got the polycoat decocker and night sights. The FLGR appears to be plastic? Now to drop a competition hammer and mainspring into it.
I've always liked CZs, but the SP-01's ergonomics can...
I have a 10/22 with an adult Butler Creek stock and oversize barrel. I think that stock/barrel combo was $89. Then I put Tech-Sights on it for another $60. What a blast to shoot.
Get a woodless M1 (if they still offer them) and a Boyd's stock. Will be tighter and better looking than CMP stocks. I've gotten a couple of CMP garands with stocks that look like they were oiled with whale fat :barf:
Two years ago I would have said rebarrel it in 7.62mm, but since all that...
I own several.
Get the standard.
Replace the extractor with a USGI one.
Shim the gas system.
Get a synthetic stock.
Get a NM trigger job.
Get a NM oprod spring guide.
Then shoot the hell out of it.
