Sorry to be picky, but the FBI issues Glocks - G23s and G22s - these days. They used to issue the SIG P228. Army CID carries the SIG P228 (called the M11). I think the Air Force Office of Special Investigations and NCIS also carry the M11 (though NCIS is transitioning to .40 cal 229 & 239s). DHS...
I agree that wasn't the point of the article, but I'm not sure that I agree that the law was "so poorly written that it was not possible to identify them as dealers or collectors." How can you define those terms in a meaningful, absolutely quantifiable way? Assuming that there should be federal...
interesting conclusion to case was...
All three defendants were Acquitted in a jury trial, so the jury must have believed they were just collectors (i.e., reasonable doubt).
In another thread, someone said you should never talk to federal agents and assist them in an investigation without a lawyer, and to support the argument, brought up the following case as an example of ATF being out of control and persecuting innocent gun owners...
"BATFE in particular has a problematic past in this regard. In fact, they once went so far as to produce an OFFICIAL training video in which they EXPLICITLY directed agents to lie under oath regarding the NFA record keeping system. Their record in terms of Brady is horrendous."
I'd be really...
"Remember, investigators are NOT out to find the truth. They are out to find enough details of a crime to get a conviction. "truth" is in the hands of the Jury, and many jurors take the view of 'if there is smoke there must be fire, if the cops are looking at this guy he probably did it!'...
I'd second the suggestion of using the "slingshot" method, plus try tilting the strong hand inboard at about a 45 degree angle -- this gives a lot more leverage for push-pull racking the slide. (this added strength from tilting inboard is the reason some people tilt the weapon inboard a bit...
I've worn my 229 in an IWB holster on cross-country flights and on long drives of several hours duration (6+), in both cases and find it only mildly uncomfortable.
I'm not a FAM, so I can't speak for how they carry.
There are a large enough # of FAMs who have stayed that ICE still doesn't need to hire more.
For more information on the FAM program, see http://www.ice.gov/graphics/fams/index.htm
Not every armed LEO on a plane is necessarily a FAM, either. I won't disclose anything that isn't public...
I recently read Koontz's Lightning and enjoyed it. However, one pretty serious gun error is he refers to the 300 round magazines for the protagonist's Uzis.
Dark Rivers of the Heart is another good one from Koontz (as was mentioned previously).
My favorite Stephen Hunter book has got to...
There is more to it than that. There are continuing qualification requirements, etc.:
And some state laws are not superceded...
Seems like a good start to me. National CCW reciprocity under the full faith & credit clause should be a logical next step.
I have an tuckable "Answer" from Tucker Gunleather that I love.
I agree with wearing the weapon further South than normal, even for a rig that has two loops/hooks like the Answer.
A tip I'd pass along is wear a shirt that is plaid or otherwise multi-colored - it helps break up the outline...
Pepper Spray in a Car?!
No thanks.
I carry the stuff whenever I'm packing iron, but don't think it's a really good solution if you're worried about the guy DRIVING YOU AROUND IN A CAR.
I vote for the ankle holster, and wear your trousers a little long in the inseam.
Felt it down here in LA, too. Long one (2-3 minutes?).
Must have been a humdinger all the way up by San Simeon (that's at least 2 1/2 hrs from here IIRC.
Officer acted 100% correctly. Formula: felony stop + felon points something at you that looks exactly like a real gun = shoot, then assess. If you wait to closely examine and function check to see if it's a replica, the next time your family will see you, you'll be lying on a slab.
Some toy...

Just what is this LE agency planning on doing about the fact that this four-time felon is attempting to purchase a firearm? Nothing...
My duty gun is a P228 and I love it.
The only other SIG I have any significant experience with is the P239, and I find the grips to be a bit too small. Also, if you're going to have a gun that's almost as big & heavy as the 228, why not have the 228 with twice the magazine capacity? Range...
L.W. - just to clarify on Ed McGivern's book (I assume we're talking about "Fast and Fancy Sixgun Shooting"): he doesn't teach "point shooting" if that means unsighted shooting. He's pretty much of the front sight school of thought and goes on at some lenght about the best types of sights, etc...
We qualify quarterly and run through the 60-round course of fire at least three times. All of our shooting is from the holster.
Then anyone who is interested in practicing some more can do so while we're at the range - things that aren't in the quals. We also get another three boxes (150...
