    Broke my Redding T7 press

My suspicion is that bolt may be a known design weak point. It’s a pain in the butt but it may be a far cheaper part to replace than the next piece that will fail when you bulletproof this failure mechanism.

This Grinds My Gears and It's bfalcon00 Fault

I noticed the same thing recently while sorting my 10 mm brass on the primers would not go in. But also consider this, in days of supply chain shortages and switchovers and lower production volume, if they commonize to two sizes effectively for 90% of your ammo you will see more primers and be...

    SW 686 Quality control slipping?

Most companies have gone LEAN. It’s all in the perception of “what the customer will pay for”. I came from a quality role job for five years on a low volume high cost machined product. We double verified all critical dimensions. Any hiccup could cost 1-2 weeks on a 8-week cycle that held...

    Noe-.310-165 data

Try speeding up or slowing down the bullet load as well. Microgroove barrels from Marlin are recommended 1500-1900 fps per Lyman for instance. Also try heavier bullets, I used an NOE 170gr recently and had great success. Your barrel may prefer 180-190 gr. Are you using gas checks...

NPR story on African American gun owners

It is truly fun to see the sport grow from the most unforeseen sources. Its universally fun to enjoy the sport. Some break clays, some paper punch targets, some shoot deer, and others play tactical games. Variety is the spice of life!

    Why have lever prices doubled?

So taking a stab at understanding it myself. Limited supply, increasing demand, inflation for materials, inflation for labor cost, diminishing available work force (short-term), surplus government provided funds, and a skill intensive product to assemble and properly tune. What I do not...

    Are All Current Rugers Garbage?

If anyone has tried to purchase a Vaquero, PCC, M77, or Ruger No 1 lately notice the scarce supply and high prices. i infer two things from this. First, Ruger prioritizes product by cost to produce and sales demand, surprise! Pocket pistols, .22 pistols, and Ruger Americans sell like...

    Proposed AR-15 tax

Best analogy I have heard lately is Gun Control is like Drunk Driving, the plan to stop drunk driving deaths is by keeping sober drivers off the road. Any preventative policing actions border on Minority Report policing, how can you prevent a crime before someone does something criminal? Only...

    Are All Current Rugers Garbage?

Ruger is one of the few American gun companies that is offering price-competitive products w a stellar warranty that is capable of competing w cheaper import products. In a world that focuses on low cost / high profit margin AR and Glock polymer derivatives that have saturated the market...

    “Insurance Edited” Loading Manuals

Cast rifle bullets usually are best served w slow handgun / fast rifle powders that fill the case well and hit that ~2k fps threshold. After 1400-1600 fps gas checks help. After 1.8-2.0k fps the hardness, twist rate, bore fitment (throat as well), and powder flame heat dictate how much...

    “Insurance Edited” Loading Manuals

Engineers love good machinists and assembly techs. I know an assembler in a plant that has his name on the patent next to the engineer’s name because it was his fixture idea for a jig. Engineers love when you point out a flaw and a potential solution, even if it needs tweaking. Thats...

    “Insurance Edited” Loading Manuals

The Engineering profession by its very nature is cautious and conservative. Its not hard to “over-engineer” something where it never fails. Its much harder to use predictive data and approximations and design it to a mechanical safety factor of 2:1 or 3:1. Why is this? The simple and short...

Any Thompson Center Contender Pistol Fans?

I was just at the local gun shop yesterday and they had three Contender frames and 5-6 barrels. It is a fascinating platform to tinker with. Everything from plinking up to medium size deer from one gun. The Encore carbine in a custom 20” .454 Casull carbine w Skinner sights is most...

    Quick Question: Cheap Progressive Press

    Quick Question: Cheap Progressive Press

If only loading 2-5 calibers you would really like a Dillon. Customer satisfaction is very high. If you like loading 5+ calibers on a budget Hornady is big bang for buck. I have not used the RCBS versions to comment.
