Hawaii Suggests Opposition to 2nd Amend.

It's been a while since I read anything on the matter, but weren't the first ten Amendments basically a requirement for the states to agree to a federal government? If so, then removing one of them invalidates the Union entirely, as the conditions are no longer being met. Of course, those...

Handguns 95% effective against bear attacks?

I tend to believe that most 'failure' stories involving firearms are gleefully spread by hoplophobes. If they do a good enough job of it, even some gun-friendly folks jump on the bandwagon, just to sound 'expert'. "You goin' into dem woods with a .9mm? May's'well not bother 'less you got a...

Old time shooter not impressed with the AR platform and wanting to talk about the AK

I've had both, and prefer the AR generally. For what it was designed to do, the AK is a great gun, and its caliber is far from 'silly'. It was never designed to be a tack driver. Now, a 7.62x59...that'd fall somewhere between .308 and .30-06...

    Ruger security six

Years ago, I had a 6" Sec Six. Accurate as all-get-out, and I carried it in all my desert wandering while I had it. About 25 years ago, it was stolen. Otherwise I'd still have it.

    Big-Bore Wheel Gun

Yep, they've been making .45-70 since long before any of us was born. While it still ain't a *cheap* round, it's still pretty well represented.

What rifle do you carry in the woods all day?

Unless I'm specifically going after small game (in which case I'd have my 10/22 or an airgun), my always-along woods/desert rifle is my Marlin levergun. Until a couple years ago, it was a 30/30, but then I picked up my 1894 in .44mag, and it's been a really good companion in the thick 'n brambly.

    How big is this idea?

According to Unkle Joe, just gotta use a shotgun, and shoot it through a door. Then you're good.

anyone carry wheel guns what do you carry

My wilderness wheelgun is my SBH in .44 mag. If I'm carrying a little closer to home, but still in the woods, my Dan Wesson 15-2 with the 6" barrel. If I'm carrying it urban, it's IWB with a 2.5" bbl, but I usually carry my XDS .45

Why is the LC9 so big?

Jolly, some have claimed the XDS trigger was improved by the fix, but I haven't really noticed the difference since I got mine back. I like the eminently concealable piece that'll hold (with the extended mag) 7+1 full .45acp rounds, and on the 20 yd plates, I could smack 'em down with authority...

    .44 Magnum recoil vs. .357?

Not compensating for anything, but have always loved .44 magnum. My current .44Mag guns are an 1894 Marlin levergun and a 7.5" SBH. As has been stated here, hold it right, and it'll roll upward with recoil. The idea is that you can thumb the hammer back during this cycle and be able to get...

Tell me about the Ruger gp100

With a little patience you could probably get more than that. My wife has one with w 4" barrel, and is a pretty darned good shot with it. We were popping off rounds at her family farm in Ga, and she did a fine job of shooting down a 6" pine that was threatening our drain valve. It'll make a...

    22 Mag

I love it in a rifle, and recently picked up a Ruger American in the caliber... sweet. I always liked the idea of a matching-caliber pistol, and the fact that my .22 revolver came with a .22 mag cylinder was just a happy circumstance. It has a 6.5 (give or take)" barrel, though, and it resides...

Why is the LC9 so big?

Uhm... I carried one for about a year, and it seemed just about right for the caliber. Disappeared in an IWB holster, and was *just* big enough that I could get a decent grip on it. I'd say they did a fine job of it. Heck, I'd still have it except that I got the hots for the XDS.

    Leveraction extra ammo

I have an elastic buttstock holder on my .44 Marlin. Between that and a full tube, I'm generally good. Back in the old days, when I'd spend the weekend in the desert, I'd probably want to carry more, maybe an ammo belt...

    Save money on food?

Certainly not cheaper, as most of us do it, though I've known a few guys who subsistence-hunt (or knew 'em long ago, it's been a couple decades) and have it down to the point where they're essentially eating for nearly free. Even those of us who do it the expensive way are keeping some skills...

    Alabama gun bill

Fortunately for me, my employer (an IT/managed services/internet service provider) has a "guns welcome" sign on the wall behind the owner's desk. On slow days, we'll sit in the conference room and talk guns. As for there not being any law *against* open carry... I figure, in a supposedly "free"...

Debating the new arguments: NRA blocking investigation, the Black Powder thing, etc.

Besides, anything can be hacked, even taggants. Enterprising folks could easily derail any advantage of the technology, if only by increasing the "signal to noise" to the point that they become a useless, expensive boondoggle.

Concealed Carriers, do you carry spare magazines?

I usually carry one spare mag with the LC9.... mostly because I only have the one spare. :) With the XD45, it just depends. If I'm pocketing the spare, it'll be one. If I'm wearing the carrier, I'll have either two or three spares, depending on whether I also have one in a pocket. I figure a...

Thinking of low cost .243---Ruger American or Wetherby Vanguard

I wouldn't turn my nose up at either, but I ended up with an XS7. It's shooting .75 at a hundred yards, just me off a rest, so I'm pretty sure it's capable of a bit better, and that was just with the first stuff I fed through it, too.
