I'm looking for a .223 bolt action plinker and paper puncher. It's down to a CZ 527 American or a Savage 14 American Classic. Must have a wooden stock. I hate plastic.
I already own two CZ rifles and love them. But I'm leaning toward the Savage for diversity and the Accutrigger may be a...
Sadly, a law abiding citizen was killed with his own handgun here a few days ago. It's not clear if he was carrying concealed or open, but a 16 year old thug with a long criminal history snatched his handgun out of his holster and shot him during the ensuing struggle.
The same thug committed...
So much for the quality of Briley Manufacturing. I bought one of their drop-in bolt handles for my new FN SLP to replace the little stubby stock handle. Inserted it, manually cycled the bolt a couple times, and then saw three different spots on the receiver where the Briley handle made contact...
Anyone know how difficult it is to drift the rear sight on an SP01? Is it uber tight fighting? I consistently shoot slightly left of my POA and would like to drift the sight a little to the right.
What are THR's thoughts on the M48? A local store has a really nice one. Way better looking that any milsurp K98's I've seen lately. I'm looking for reasons why I shouldn't buy it.
Thanks.
Can anyone offer any insight on removing a VERY tight trigger pin on a Hi Power?
I'm trying to drive it out right to left as recommended. So far, I've tried penetrating oil and totally destroyed 5 brass punches. The pin has only moved about 1mm to the left, just enough that you can feel it...
... on a cannonball. :p
Here's a follow-up on a local story from a few months ago. Dude blew himself up with a Civil War cannonball. Call it a self-inflicted accident/lack of common sense.

Last night I saw a fascinating episode of "Impact: Stories of Survival" on Discovery Health that really shed a lot of light on the buckshot vs birdshot debate. Young guy working in a grocery store was shot TWICE at close range (6-8 feet) by a robber with a pistol grip shotgun. They showed the...
The Browning Hi-Power. The Grande Puissance. The P-35. Concieved by John Browning but realized by Dieudonne Saive. A wonder of its time as it introduced many of the common features found on most semi-auto handguns made today. At one time, it was perhaps the most widely issued military...
I just saw that S&W is going to sell a 5.45mm AR upper. What's your opinion? Would corrosive mil-surp ammo fired thru a gas impingement system ruin the gas tube and receiver? Would it be a bear to clean? Any interest?

It doesn't say what was taken. Dominion had a couple FA sub guns available for rental. I hope those weren't taken.

Someone raised an interesting point in another thread which I'd like to explore a bit more. Assuming that SCOTUS rules favorably in Heller and declares that the 2A protects an individual RKBA, what impact might the ruling have on efforts to pass a new assault weapons ban? Would Congressional...
How's this for a FUBAR. Here's hoping some idiot loses their job over this one. :fire:

I don't know know much about wildcatting. But since 5.45x39 is about the only cheap centerfire ammo available these days, would it be feasible to custom build a barrel chambered in 5.45 and put it on a current production action?
I'm not looking to spend a lot of money. Just looking for a...
I've never really had a problem with NFA 1934. All it does is place an excise tax on certain types of weapons and criminalizes certain acts related to the improper manufacturer, transfer and possession of said weapons. But it doesn't actually prevent anyone from owning anything. Fair enough...
Can anyone recommend a gunsmith to do a trigger job on an SP-01? My local smith looked at it, but decided not to touch the unusual CZ trigger mechanism less he make things worse. I love the gun, but it's got enough creep and grit for 10 guns.
A win for the good guys! I predicted several weeks ago that the grand jury would slap Mike Herring in the face by refusing to indict this kid. This makes my day! :)
