gamachinist, The early Universals had a single operating rod spring just like a USGI. The newer version has 2 springs and will take very few USGI parts. Mine has a 22,xxx serial number which has only 1 operating rod spring and takes USGI parts. A USGI trigger should work if he has a early version.

A slip-on recoil pad made a big difference in the recoil of my FR-8.

I bought a small slip-on recoil pad to put on my FR-8. It added about 3/4 inch to the stock length and help with the recoil. I also have a French MAS36 that I did the same thing too.
