Felt Recoil as a function of bullet weight and speed

Get a different (fast) powder, and you should be able to run those 185gr bullets at closer to 800fps without having to change the recoil spring. Those will definitely be low recoil.

    Dillon setup help

I think you're being unnecessarily worried about it. The only issue he's likely to run into with the RL550B priming system (at least initially) is getting the primer tube housing properly aligned such that the primer slide doesn't bind while travelling back and forth between picking up primers...

How to choose my first reloading caliber

You might try one or more of the various coated (most use Hi-Tek) cast lead bullets. Those have the advantage of not needing an aftermarket barrel in your Glock(s). 9mm is a good caliber to get started on, but you'll save more per round on .380, since its cheaper to reload, but more expensive...

Worst lines you've heard from gun sellers?

I'm sure it could kill an elephant. It's all about the shot placement. I walked into the biggest local shop after moving to the area and asked if they carried reloading supplies. "No...it's really not worth it. You won't save any money loading your own ammo."

Why people buy the "Saturday Night Specials"?

Hi Point's just look like junk. :neener: Honestly, they look like crap and have terrible ergonomics, but they do tend to be cheap, reliable, surprisingly accurate guns. I definitely wouldn't classify them as Saturday Night Specials. They're more of a "I gotta have a gun that works, but I...

CCW at grocery store (Story, kind of funny)

bsctov, you must have been printing like mad. One of the first things you learn when you start carrying concealed is that the vast majority of people are oblivious. You think you're printing, or that your holster clips are showing, etc., but nobody notices. One of the next things you learn is...

    RedDot or Bullseye or TiteGroup

I haven't used Bullseye, but between the others, I prefer Promo [emoji3]

Dillon 550B primer feed sticks @ primer fill

It should work fine. A couple of years ago, when this came up on brianenos.com, I had a friend make an extended primer track bearing for my RL550B. Mine doesn't have the roller bearing on it...it's just a piece of sheet metal cut like the original bearing, but extended to better support the...

    Smith 17 grip suggestions

You say you've decided against Hogue, but not why or which style. I'm a big fan of their wood monogrips, and have them on all my S&W's...and I've tried Altamont and Ahrend. You used to be able to pick up factory seconds for cheap from Hogue's auction site, but the site's been down for several...

    Trying Clays in 45 ACP

4gr is Hodgdon's published max for 230gr jacketed, but lots of people claim to load beyond that. Some have to just to make PF...so don't be surprised if you only get into the low 700s FPS.

    38 Button Nose Wadcutters

Just curious, is there a reason you prefer button nose vs double ended? I was going to suggest Falcon, but I checked their site, and see they've decided to close up shop.

New to Competition where and what should I try?

IMO, most noob-friendly competition is GSSF...only catch is, you need a Glock. No movement. No drawing. No reloading on the clock. Lots of prizes given out (both performanced based and random awards). If you already have a Glock or are not against the idea of buying one, check out...

    Help choosing a gun safe

The Browning "on the door rifle storage" looks like a great idea, but having bought one, I'll warn you, doing that forces you to give up considerable usable depth inside the safe...because the rifles on the door will intrude more than you'd think into the safe interior, particularly the bottoms...

    Recent Glock Shortage?

Sounds like I picked the wrong week to order a Gen4 19. I sent in a prize cert for one a week ago today. I wonder how long it takes to produce 40,000 Glock 19s?

    new loader-test loads?

If the range is a long haul from home, I'd do one of two things. a) Look into making up a portable loading setup. Your brass would be all prepped and primed, so you'd just need to charge with powder, seat, and crimp. b) Load 10-20 of all the various powder charges you think you might...

    Concealed carry at work

In an "at will" employment state, they can fire you for any non-discriminatory reason, like violating company rules/policy.

    Semi-interesting 9mm headstamp

Ream or swage and they load just fine. Not new.

    147gr. 9mm OAL

    I've loaded Zero 147gr JHP... Zero 147gr JHP 1.128" 3.3gr Promo 933fps (G17), 841fps (G43) Zero 147gr JHP 1.128" 3.4gr Promo 943fps (G17), 849fps (G43) Either ran fine...but I preferred the 3.3gr load.

Add Speer to the Small Primer 45ACP List

Speer SP .45 is far from new. I suspect all .45 factory ammo will eventually be converted over to SP...so even if you hate it, you should start saving it just like LP brass, but separately. Eventually, your LP brass will wear out / get lost, and you'll be loading SP .45.

Looks like I found me a new local gun shop!

It beats the hell out of anything I've seen in WalMart for as long as I can remember. i.e. empty shelf space.
