    Minnesota Mountain Lions!

I'm not familiar with the Minnesota cougar report, but they are in Iowa, confirmed by the DNR and law enforcement; and if I recall the news accounts correctly, are believed to be coming in in response to increased deer population and the need for large territories. The first of the more recent...

    The Annenberg Public Policy Report

I think that's just the press release, not the official report. I agree that most people don't know what 'assault weapon' means. I'm curious as to whether there were other questions as well.

    The Annenberg Public Policy Report

"Sixty-eight percent of the American public wants Congress to extend the ten-year old ban on assault weapons, the University of Pennsylvania's National Annenberg Election Survey has found." This ban is dead, but does anyone have more information about the methods used in this survey? I don't...

    Guns & coins

I think the combo gun show, quilting/ crafts show is a great idea, and I've often wondered why some enterprising company didn't do this; having gone to some of the latter with my wife and seeing a lot of husbands/ so's standing around looking extremely bored. I hear what several of you are...

    Guns & coins

Many investment advisors recommend some precious metals in your portfoliio, usually for no more than 10% of your total investment worth. The reason for this is volativity; silver, gold, and platinum prices bounce around much more than any stock market index, and metals are considered a hedge...

    NRA mailing video tapes now

I started with this, when the initial information said, in effect, one tape every 'two to three months'. I've recently received 3 in the last 4 weeks. I naively assumed the series was maybe 8 or 10 tapes, but after calling NRA, it could be 25 or more. I have 10 or so, but won't be buying any...

FBI bullet evidence use in question

Not ballistic fingerprinting, but thought it might be interesting to some (from the Des Moines Register): http://desmoinesregister.com/news/stories/c4788993/23493859.html Washington, D.C. - A National Research Council report to be issued today questions the FBI's use of bullets as evidence...

    Speaking of politically correct . . .

"You should print cards and sell them" I didn't come up with the original text, but if I did make cards, what image could I possibly use without offending someone? I think the only correct image would be no image, and include a package of markers so the sender could draw the image of his/...

    Blazer Brass?

Well Duh; I'm a little slow this morning. :).

    Blazer Brass?

I just checked the cci-ammunition.com web site, and though there is no mention yet of the Blazer Brass in their 'New Products' section (for 2003, though), they do show several flavors of new Blazer frangible, all in aluminum cases. So, it appears that CCI will still offer aluminum-cased...

    Gun case size question

I recently purchased a CZ 452 Lux, .22 LR, and just purchased a Boyt Scoped Gun Case, medium size, to use when heading to the field. The CZ is 42.6" long, according to the web site, and the medium case holds 42"- 44" guns. So, it would seem to be just about right; except to my inexperienced...

    Blazer Brass?

I posted a question to CCI/ Blazer on their website, asking for more information, and received this response: "Tim: we are working on the inclusion of the Blazer Brass data for the website, right now. This ammunition is new and it has made it to the marketplace ahead of the website...

    Blazer Brass?

I was browsing for ammunition tonight, and noticed at ammoman.com a listing for a 'New item by CCI' called Blazer Brass; Blazer ammunition in a brass case. It was listed as available in 9mm , 40 SW, and 45 ACP; didn't look further than that. Does anyone have any experience with this? It...

Iowa shooting ranges near Des Moines

Public or private, where do you Iowa residents or visitors shoot handgun and rifle (and maybe shotgun) out to 100 yards, within 50 miles of Des Moines? I know about the Olofson range, and the Ames Izaak Walton range. Are there others? Ankeny NLSI indoor range is no longer open to the public; the...

    CZ 452 Lux ammunition

I see several brands have 'plated' .22 ammo, which I assume is a sort of a copper or brass FMJ type of covering. Is there any advantage to using this (cleaning, for example)?

    CZ452 Training Rifle

Hope you can find the training model... I just bought the Lux; tried to get the training model but none of the distributors my dealer called had them in stock. CZ's web site says the training model is sold out for 2003, but you might be able to find a dealer that has or can get one.

    CZ 452 Lux ammunition

One of these will be under the tree this Christmas. What ammunition would those of you who have more experience than I do recommend? The rifle will primarily be used for serious (though not competition) target shooting at 50 and 100 yards. Thanks in advance.

Ok to carry ammo to the range 'loose'?

I'm going to the range this afternoon (to take advantage of what may be the last 70-degree day in central Iowa this year), and will be using Ziplock bags for now. I tore off part of the box and put it in the bag with the ammo to identify brand/ caliber etc. The Dillon bag looks great, but is...

Ok to carry ammo to the range 'loose'?

rayra- Point taken on the weight; I'm thinking of no more than 200 rounds at a time (or per bag), and probably wouldn't rely on the drawstrings only for support. Also, some of the lens bags are designed to hold large telephoto lenses, which can weigh between 6 and 10 pounds. Natchez shows 4...
