    S&W Sigma .40

I had one for about 2 years, finally came to the conclusion that it needed to go because of the heavy trigger pull. The trigger is what makes the gun a shooter or not to me and the Sigma SW40VE that I had was not one. It was accurate, but split times were bad because of the trigger. FYI, I...

    Firearm(s) you have...but don't like?

There was a time that I vowed never to get rid of any guns that I had paid money for. After all I bought them for SOME reason, right? In the last year I've put up quite a few at GunBroker, just to get rid of them because they were second rate. By that I mean they were Taurus, Savage, or...

So I broke out the chrono for the 1st time today...

A chrono is a very interesting tool to verify just exactly where your reload velocities are. After going without one for many years, it's amazing how much of an eye opener my chrono has been for me. Just make sure you don't accidentally shoot it:eek:, I did this once. Not only is it good for...

    Hunters' Numbers

Access to quality hunting land is a big issue for a lot of people. By quality, I mean a place where you are going to get a shot in a relatively short amount of time on stand. By and large, hunting is a waiting game and is boring at some point . There are too many alternatives for recreation...

    Roanoke laws

I wouldn't open carry in Roanoke anywhere, but that's me. I conceal if I can, but you are allowed to open carry in a bar that serves alcohol. You cannot conceal carry in the same establishment. I never understood the rationale behind it, as alcohol and guns are not good combinations in a...

Reloader 15 for .30-06.....your experiences and thoughts

I did get around to trying out the 5 that I loaded and I was not impressed with either the velocity or the accuracy. The 5 shot velocity average was 2787 fps out of my Savage 110 (22"). I want somewhere near 2875 fps. I used 49.0 grains of RE 15 so I do have just a small bit to move up until...

Reloader 15 for .30-06.....your experiences and thoughts

I recently abandoned Varget and picked up a pound of Reloader 15. It has yielded very good velocities and better than average accuracy for my use in the .223 and .30-30 so far. I want to try it in .30-06 and I'm wondering if any of you had any experiences to share using 150 grain bullets? I...

    wasting money

I like "wasting money" on guns. At least they will be there for years and years, unlike other things I have spent money on. Live and let live. Everyone needs a hobby.

First time adult buyer - which .22 LR rifle?

Get yourself a Ruger 10/22. They can be accessorized to no end and are priced under $200 at WalMart. They aren't the most accurate out of the box, but for the money they are a good semi auto rifle.

    Cleaning a .22

The best thing you can buy for a .22 LR is a Hoppes Bore Snake. It won't hurt the barrel and it's what I use for my Rugers after every range session.

Did Rudy Sell Out to the NRA? The Politics of Gun Control

I'm one NRA member who will never vote for him. The important thing is to dig into the voting records and past actions of all the candidates. I'm continually amazed at how these people try to evolve into something they are not.

Loss of job for talking about guns/hunting

If you were not a career employee, i.e a "casual", you can be fired for any reason under the sun and not have much recourse. The simple fact is that you need to watch what you are saying and who is around you when you are saying it. That goes for any job in the PC world we are forced to put up...

Do you enjoy shooting .22 LR?

Every time I go to the range I usually take my Ruger 22/45. It's a lot of fun to shoot and is really accurate. When the weather is cooperating I can shoot a Fed. 550 rd. bulk pack in a half day. Cheap entertainment for me, compared to most things these days. I use one of those spinning metal...

    .223 questions

I've used Varget in my Howa 1500, 22" barrel, and I could never get the velocity I wanted with it. I was using Hornady 55 gr. FMJBT bullets. Average velocity was just over 3100 fps with a compressed charge. This is less than the reloading manuals print, but I'm sure the 22" barrel was the...

    Ammunition as an investment?

I just hope that there isn't some type of law passed, at the Federal level, that prohibits "x amount" of ammo in a single family home. The 2nd Amendment doesn't say a thing about ammo. Of course this will be sold in the name of "safety". Just imagine such a law that would make all of us...

    Best Rifle/Scope Combo Under $500

Check out GB for an idea of prices. It seems that the entry level rifle market is really cheap to get into these days. You can get a Savage 110 with the accutrigger for about $370. WalMart also has good prices on thier rifles and can order a lot of what you may be looking for. Higher end...

    Scope for a Ruger 10/22

Go to WalMart and spend $30 or so on one of the scopes they carry. I put a Tasco 3-9x on my 10/22. The magnification helps when you want some precision in your shooting. At 100 yards a 4x just doesn't get it done for me.

Mueller: 'I Am the Person Responsible' For FBI (USA PATRIOT Act) Privacy Lapses

This is what happens when an agency/gov't has too much power over the people, they abuse it. The Patriot Act needs to go away.

No wonder the Repubs can't win, part II

It's sad to say it, but those in charge are giving the country away for the sake of votes from these illegal aliens. Don't they understand that these people will never vote Republican. The two party system is broken and no longer serves the middle classs that is being eroded everyday. If the...

    .223 reloads - chrono results

Why did I select Varget in the first place? Because it it the powder that lists the highest velocity using a 55 gr. bullet. It is now obvious that I'll never be able to fit enough powder into a 5.56 case to acheive that velocity. And to think that I loaded over a 1K of these, but have only...
