While I prefer my Springfield 1911 Mil Spec, there's no denying the utility of owning a mid-sized 9MM. I have had 2 in the past. The first was a Springfield XD that I shot well, but I just couldn't get used to the striker-fired design. Next was a CZ RAMI. Nice size but a jam-o-matic.
Then I...
Sending it to Mike Orlen might be the way to go. I called the new Ithaca company, and while they were very friendly, they weren't really interested in trying to fit a new barrel to an older frame like mine.
I recently scored a beautiful old 1946 Model 37 in 20 gauge. It looks like it was hardly ever used, wood and blue are like new. It started out as a non-vented Modified 28" barrel. However it now has a PolyChoke installed. I'd like to have a 25" IC barrel (my dream grouse gun), but finding a good...
Strong endorsements indeed. I want to pick a .380 that looks like it will hold up better than the Keltec/LCP designs. I'll be keeping my eyes open for an 83 in .380 in case that ammo ever becomes available again.
... and I think I'll pass on that 32 to the kneecap.
Just read a nice little story about 32 cal handguns. The accuracy from the CZ 83 blew all the others away (sub 1" at 10 yards). Has anyone got one of these in 380 that shoots that well? I'm inclined to pick one up but 32 is a little anemic for my tastes.
Sounds like I'll need to push 'em a little harder then, especially since they aren't oversized by much. I've got some 2400 and Lil' Gun for that. Won't be quite what I was looking for at the range, but they ought to roll the bunnies pretty well if I keep the ranges reasonable. They'll just bark...
I just bought a box of LaserCast 148gr DEWC for target practice and small game shooting under 50 yards. I'll be using these in a 6" GP100. These bullets are rated at 24 on the Brinell scale and sized at .358. So they are plenty hard and not over-sized by much. I have some Unique and thought I'd...
Thanks for that comparison BlindJustice. Where does the width measurement come from on those? One thought, even if the slide widths are comparable, the CZs are going to be thicker below the slide since the slide rides inside the frame. True?
So no one has taken the 1911 design and updated the internals but left the external ergos alone? Man, that speaks volumes about the design. When it's right it's right.
Ah the P7. I have a fantasy about finding one for under $500. And I had forgotten what a sweetheart the little 3913 was, but it's a little too little for my purposes. Some of the standard size Gen 3 Smiths look worth investigating though. I've got a buddy with a 10mm that I want to check out.
Thanks rcmodel. The scratches are deep enough to catch my fingernail. I wish I could just color them but I would prefer to remove them. I fear that they are beyond a quick fix.
I might be better off if I just work them down and re-blue the receiver. Guess I'll try to work them down lightly to...
I recently picked up a nice old 870 Wingmaster that's in pretty good shape except for some very light rust freckling and a couple of medium depth scratches on the receiver. I'm trying to gussy it up a bit and give it to my nephew as a gift.
I've heard that steel wool and CLP will often work...
The beauty of the 1911 is that it's a full-size pistol so it handles and shoots exceptionally well. Yet it's so flat that it still carries like a dream. Quite a one-two punch.
