    S&W Model 10-7 jamming

I recently acquired this revolver. Excellent condition with a faint turn line. It had been sitting for a long time, hardly used so it looked pretty dry. Not wanting to take the slide plate off, I removed the stocks and sprayed oil up into the action. To disburse the oil around I was holding...

    Closet storage of blued handguns

I have blued revolvers for home protection. They are kept in closets on the shelves for quick access. I have been laying them on soft cloths but am worried moisture could get trapped between the cloth and the finish and cause rust. They are always wiped down with a silicone cloth after...

    Revolver locking up

I just bought a 1982 S&W Model 10 revolver. The very faint turn line indicates it has been fired very little. So, I believe it is completely original inside and out. I removed the grips so I could spray CLP up into the mechanism to flush out any gunk and get it oiled. I inserted snapcaps...

    Holsters ca. 1952

My favorite kind of movie is a murder mystery or detective crime drama. Naturally I watch for the guns to see if I can identify them. Sometimes you can see the holster. I don't think I have ever seen a form fitted holster like what is so popular today. What were holsters like in 1952...

What is 20 gauge pump shotgun recoil like?

I would like to buy a pump shotgun for home defense. I tried a 12 gauge at the range one day and don't want one of those. I've read a 20 gauge recoils 45% less. So, is a twenty really lighter on the shoulder? My small wife may be the one shooting it so that needs to be considered.

    M1 carbine numbers on stock

HK-no other numbers other than the serial number in the usual place. No import marks either. The numbers on the stock are about 3/4" high. They obviously have been stamped one at a time, the spacing is irregular.

    M1 carbine numbers on stock

I'm looking at a possible purchase of a 12/44 Inland that has large numbers stamped in the wood of the stock, left side, forward of the sling/oiler opening. They're not the same as the serial number. Anyone know what they mean and who put them there?

Which is smaller-642, M36, or Colt DS?

Guillermo- I did a Yahoo search for 5.11 refinforced belt and found several choices. Which one do you have that you like so much? Thanks.

    Compare NAA 22 magnum revolvers?

I have a Pug, it is a delightful mini revolver. Supreme concealability, quite accurate, and Winchester Supreme's bore a hole thru two 2X4's like they were butter. I almost bought a BW but preferred the looks and slightly smaller size of the Pug...

    Colt D Frame snubs

LKB, I too was amazed at the difference in going from 130gr. to 158gr. lswc. I thought, like you, that a lighter bullet would kick less. I found a bigger bullet at less velocity is much more comfortable. I tried +P once, gave half the box away, never again!! Shooting 158's in my M10 snub is...

    Colt D Frame snubs

I have a question for you DS experts: how does the recoil compare to a J frame, aluminum or steel? I find the 642 to be a bit of a hand pounder, would a change to a Detective Special be less of a smack?

Which is smaller-642, M36, or Colt DS?

The reason I thought a M36 could be smaller is because I've seen over on the S&W forum they refer to modern J frames as having "magnum frames" so that the same frame can be used with .38 or .357. Darn, I was hoping a DS would be smaller in some way. I have a M10 snub and it seems huge next...

Which is smaller-642, M36, or Colt DS?

I prefer a revolver for concealed carry, but I'm annoyed with the cylinder width, it's fat compared to many autos. I'd like to find something smaller than my 642. An IWB holster feels uncomfortable, a belt holster seems to cause my jacket or shirt to stick out noticeably, and I can't stand...

    Assorted .38 Stuff

I read both articles-very nice. I had to smile, tho, when I read your comment about the .38 special having "negligible recoil". I see you own a 642, as I do, so you should have known better to make such a blanket statement:) And; the .357 cartridge can't be the "older brother", it wasn't...

    .38 magnum?

While watching an 1940's crime movie last night, the crime lab techician said the powder used to make a car bomb came from a .38 magnum cartridge. I've never heard that before. Was there ever such a thing, or was it a slang term for something else? Or just a script writer's mistake, maybe...

    NAA Pug Chrony Test

"Straw Man"? Now this is getting to be fun, circa 1939. Okay, my turn: "Ignore the man behind the curtain". His way is the only way. "100% on the low range", and "they have severe limitations" are not to be considered declarative statements made in defense of personal choice. My point...

    NAA Pug Chrony Test

I sure don't understand people that say they don't trust a mini revolver for a primary, but only as a backup. This seems absolutely silly to me. All this "primary-backup" semantics is absurd! When you use a gun for self defense do you truly believe the assailant knows the difference...

    .22 Magnum=scratch awl @ 950 fps

Gunslinger, please show where your statement can be authenticated. I've seen no evidence of .22 lr's bouncing off human skulls, which have some of the thickest of bone density in a human body. Evidence; R. Kennedy, J. Brady, Special Forces in Vietnam, mafia hitmen. If a .22 magnum will...

    .22 Magnum=scratch awl @ 950 fps

I've noticed some people here have a very low opinion of the .22 Magnum for defense. I have wondered why, and I especially do now. Let me explain: I was making a play box for my cat and I needed to punch some holes in the cardboard to run string thru. I went out to the garage and looked...
