I think my email address is in my profile. Feel free.

    Model & year identification

I think Radagast is correct. If it really is original, not re-blued, and is mechanically sound, it might bring a skosh more. If all that is true, and you by some miracle have the original box and stuff, it might bring double that.

    Model & year identification

Best guess is, it's a Hand Ejector Military & Police, which became the Model 10 in 1957. If it is, and the SN is as described, then it was made in the late '30's, but certainly before WWII. Be sure to refer to the serial number on the bottom of the grip frame. If it is in original condition...

Anyone loading 357 with Blue Dot?

Damnedest muzzle flash I've ever seen. Singed the hair off my knuckles. Like looking into an old type photo flashbulb.

Shooting gloves help to tame the beast

I've never used them before, but my last range session with the 629 and Remington 180 JSPs might convince me to try the weightlifter gloves. I've never bruised up like that before.

    gun show find

That appears to be one of a limited run of Acusport Bisley Blackhawks. I have a pair of them in .357 for CAS. Congrats on your find.

    Smith 649

    Uh, 649??? That's a pic of a Centennial, not a Bodyguard. Just sayin'. I think it's a 640.

Plans for a new range in Talladega, Al.

For those interested in shooting, especially long range, check out the match schedule at www.scssa.org, which is a private club that opens to the public for matches. It is off South Shades Crest road in Hoover. Awesome facility.

    Value of pre-29

Cop Bob, I think the change from 6.5 to 6 inch came in 1979, per a posting I read on the S&W collectors forum. This is well after the change to model number designations, which came in 1957

    Value of pre-29

Thanks, Peter. I did just what you desribed prior to posting here, but I got no cred or record over there, and those guys scare <sniffle> me. My SCOSW tells me that there are more 4-screw pre-29's extant than 5-screw, fwiw. Since I oon't know which it is, I guess all ideas are welcome.

    Value of pre-29

An acquaintance has been given (not a typo) a pre-29, and needs to sell it for much needed capital. He is not an afficionado, and in this case, neither am I. He describes it thusly: "New, in the box, with original grips, un-turned, with all the stuff it came with, including the origninal bill of...

    S&W Bodyguard 38 owners

I have 3 j frame .38s and a 9mm. If I ever buy another pocket revolver, it will be a new Bodyguard. A buddy let me shoot his, and while it didn't feel as good in the hand as did the LCR I was also testing, it shot incredibly well in slow, aimed fire. 5 shots to poa in one not-even-very-ragged...

Do you still have your first firearm?

Yep. My first firearm was a Savage/Springfield M15 bolt-action SS .22 LR. No serial number, cocking handle on the back of the bolt, a miminalist for sure. The amazing thing was that I got if for Christmas ~ 1966. AFAIK, that was the first firearm anyone in my patri-lineage had EVER owned. I...

    Cross-eye dominant shooters; advice please.

As a related comment, shooting a pump shotgun from the left shoulder is way cool. Dominant/dextrous (literally, look it up) hand to work the pump, and feed shells into the magazine while still hanging onto the pistol grip. My biggest problem is bolt-action rifles. Lever rifles work well for...

How to dispose/get rid of unwanted ammo?

What an astonishing thought, which says much more about me than it does you. Well-stored ammunition is like money in the bank, only better. The only reasons I could imagine for selling "excess to anticipated needs" ammunition are: No place to keep it; A serious financial emergency. My unborn...

The 'unknown' safety rule: Never try to catch a dropped gun

I heard a credible story of someone who tried to arrest the ballistic trajectory of a Smith N-frame, with loud, but thankfully, not tragic, results. Just sayin'.

    Best Caliber That Never Took-off

.256 Winchester Mag. A necked-down .357, which would be pure death on pests. A much better lever-gun round than the 25-20 or 32-20.

    Help ID a J Frame 38 S&W

An Airweight Bodyguard in blue alloy later became the Model 38. I fine bit of kit, imnsho. Congrats!

Rifle bullet in a revolver brass?

Oh, and OAL means "overall length". In a single shot rifle, as in my Contender, the onliest :) thing to concern yourself with was making sure you didn't have the bullet jammed into the lands of the rifling.

Rifle bullet in a revolver brass?

Yes it is. I used to load 200gr .358 RN jacketed bullets intended for the .35 Rem in .357 cases to shoot IHMSA (metallic silhouette) with a Contender. Back then, there were no suitable heavy (> 158 gr) bullets for this application. Now there are many. You can, but why would you?
