Cool Old Smitty: Nearly 100 Years Old

Good looking (real) M&P. Learned to shoot handguns on one just a tad younger, about 50 years ago. Still have the gun, wouldn't part with it. Good buy

    New GP100

Sounds like a pretty good deal. I've got the 4" stainless. It has been a great shooter. You are going to enjoy it.

    $250 for Walther P22?

I paid $250 for my P22. Fun little gun-if you take it apart and do some polishing and smoothing. I wouldn't pay any more than $250 for a P22. My one regret is that a stainless Single Six was going for the same price. I'd have been happier with the SS.

Rock Island 1911 vs. Taurus pt1911

I'm certainly in a minority. I bought a PT1911 about 2 years ago and really like the pistol. For all the legendary Taurus failures I haven't had anything go wrong with the pistol. It is darn easy to shoot accurately up to 25 yards. Past that I can't say, never tried it. I didn't like the...

Smith and Wesson Model 64-5 Questions

If you look around you can find a pretty good one at a reasonable price. I picked up this police trade-in a couple weeks a go. Pretty good shooter. 25 yards

    Single Six, Hole-y Fun!

Isn't it good to discover just how much fun an SA .22 can be? At the price of price of magnum rounds, mine sees mostly .22 lr.

    1911 or a .22

Tough choices. Both a 1911 and a .22 (Ruger, Browning, 22A). I always take at least one .22 to the range. I've got all the reasons for shooting .22's: more rounds for the buck, great for practice, etc. Mainly I shoot a lot of .22 rounds because it's just plain fun.

    Ruger P90 lubricants

I've been cleaning mine with CLP and follow it with a very light application of Hoppe's. The only problems have been one set of my reloads.

Mythbusters: less than 3" at 25 yrds w/ snubnose

I bought a 442 and got quite a surprise. Between the light weight and rather stout trigger, it put rounds all over an 8.5x11" sheet at 15 yards. I'm sure a shotgun would have had better consistency. I could almost hear the gun laughing at me as it caught every shooting flaw I had. :D The...

    .22 for self defense

Lighter is a matter of perspective. The SP101 looks like a little gun compared to my GP100:D If you want lighter carry for SD only, I'd suggest a J-frame S&W like the 442/642 or the Taurus equivalent. I have a 442 and a pocket holster. Darned easy and comfortable to carry. If I carry in...

    .38 Special 158gr. Semi-Wadcutters for Home Defense

The never ending discussion of which caliber and round for SD is fun and never has a conclusion. Since I'm not worried about defending my home from bears, my guess is any .38 round will do the job, or at least get the BG's attention if you are on target. I have medium load 158gr lswc's in my...

Heritage Rough Rider SA Small Bore Revolvers ?

Based on shooting one RR, I'd rate them as ok. The revolver was easy to shoot accurately and felt pretty good. It's owner has been shooting it for well over a year without any problems. I prefer my single six. It is much better made, feels and looks more solid than the RR. Based on your...

    Ruger P-series...Why not?

I was of the "ugly, blocky looking gun" opinion until I came across a P90DC at a price I just couldn't turn down. First round was low left because of the long trigger pretravel. The rest of the mag was one ragged hole in the X-ring. The darned thing started really looking good after that.:D...

Adding an inexpensive .45 ACP to my collection..fair price for a used Ruger P???

I bought a used Ruger P90DC for $200 bucks a while back. I've been very pleased with the function, feel, fit and accuracy of the pistol. The trigger seems to have a long pretravel in SA. Not bad, just something you have to adjust to. I'm not a big fan of .45 either. That must be the...

Tips on Ruger MKIII Hunter detail strip

No reason to do a detail strip unless you are replacing parts. Bullseye's site, the guntalk-online link posted above has the best instructions for either I've found. The field strip is not all that hard, if you follow the instructions, and practice a couple times. I've put the full VQ...

    Blackhawk Convertible 357/9mm

I've been disappointed with the accuracy of 9mm in my convertible. I've fired mostly .38/.357 and the revolver is darned good. I may need more time with the 9mm, but since I reload, there isn't much difference in ammo prices and the .38's are nice and sweet.

    22 Revolvers

S&W makes the 617 and 317. The 317 is the lighter weight model. Taurus has a couple of DA models. Ruger and Heritage make SA revolvers. Revolvers are generally slower to load than semiautos. I agree with Cajun Bass, why be in a hurry to expend ammo? SA revolvers are a nice, relaxing...

    Old S&W M&P...New to me.

If most are like the one I have, you have an excellent revolver. Excellent trigger, DA or SA. If you do your part, excellent accuracy. I learned to shoot handguns on the one below about 50 years ago. My Dad purchased it used in the early '30's. As far as I'm concerned, it is the best handgun...

    642 in a pocket?

I have a 442 in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster. Easy, no visibility carry.

    Revolver for the wife

I think I agree with Daizee. I bought a 442 a few months ago. Nice little, light revolver. Great for carry. Took me a while to get over the combination of relatively heavy trigger and light weight. Recoil doesn't bother me, but it took me a while to get accuracy down. They aren't exactly...
