    "I regret to inform you..."

My heart just dropped down into my stomach when I read this. I'm so very sorry. To paraphrase General Patton Though we mourn the men who died, we should even more thank God that such men lived.

Holy cow! My first time shooting a 12 gauge...

The Knoxx recoil reducing stock is amazingly effective, I really recommend it. I can shoot slugs all day and it does not bother me with this on my 870.

"Gun-Toting White Males" in race-war, says The Nation

The article covers a topic that was the subject of some posts on AR15.com. One of the 'white people' was a man who was attacked by a looter and hit in the head with a wrench; the looter came to ask for help, and then smashed the guy's head and stole his van. Strangely, the 'journalist'...

    M-1 Carbine , any good?

I have had mixed luck with the CMP m1 carbine. I had two of them which had problems with failure-to-extract, which I never managed to fix, and finally sold them. I then got a "rack grade" m1 carbine from them, and after getting the grease off of it, found it was in perfect condition, maybe...

    Slide locking up-870

Polishing the chamber worked for me. It only locked up with slugs or powerful buckshot. Trap loads never locked up. I polished it twice, with steel wool on a brass brush mounted to a cordless drill. The first time helped but it still stuck on occasion. I polished it some more, and now it seems...

If I can only own one EBR before Osama...

This is a very poor attitude, it is exactly what the anti-gun forces are hoping for, a "well I've got mine", by grandfathering in stuff that people own already. Divided we fall. I don't want to to try to hoard stuff before another ban, I want to fight that ban as strongly as possible.

    School me on a basic 1911 .45

Don't forget Smith and Wesson. They have a lifetime warranty, and very nice line of 1911s with updated sights, triggers, hammers, etc. I have sent them guns to fix, which I bought used, and it is always no questions asked.

    Took the Highroad at Quiznos

That is a very good approach. Even if someone is acting like a creep, giving them a way to back down without losing face is a good strategy. That is making your point in a non-escalating way. Accusing someone of stealing immediately puts them on the defensive, while appealing to their better...

    Wolf ammo,your honest opinion?

I had the problem with the older lacquer cases, that when my HBAR barrel heated up, the cases got stuck in the chamber, and I had to whack the butt on the ground to get the bolt unstuck. I was shooting a whole mag pretty quickly, though, so the barrel got hot, and the HBAR holds the heat. The...

Ruger 10/22 -OR- Marlin Model 60

I found the stock on the Marlin 60 a little too large and heavy. I like the Ruger 10/22 with the synthetic stock. I have the stainless steel model. I sold the Marlin 60 I had bought after a while, because I found the Ruger more ergonomic for me. I like to shoot offhand, not from a bench, and the...

    Recoil Reduction Pads

I got the Knoxx recoil reducing stock for my 870, and it works perfectly. Shooting slugs used to be something that brought tears to my eyes, but with this stock, it is not painful anymore.

What's the point of "safe action" triggers?

I also worry that the two part plastic trigger will just break off if something gets jammed.

    Pistol-caliber carbines

I had a Ruger PC9 but I wasn't very happy with it; shooting 9mm out to 100 yards just doesn't have a lot of appeal. I now have a Winchester 1894 trapper in .44 magnum. It has substantial recoil, but is very accurate out to 100 yards, and is just more satisfying; if I am going to get...

What's the point of "safe action" triggers?

I think people here are all missing the point about these "safeties". The Glock and follow-ons like the M&P were designed for a specific kind of duty; police and security. People who are not gun 'connoisseurs'. If shots are fired, either on purpose or by accident, there is going to be a lot...

This is my core gun collection gotta haves

    If I could afford it, I'd like two of everything. well, at least the following AR10 AR15 M1 Carbine M14 Winchester 1894 in 30-30 and 44 mag Winchester 1873 Winchester 1866 22 Browning Buckmark 10/22 Browning BL22 Browning semi-auto handgun 1911 S&W Beretta 92 M&P from S&W in 9mm and 45 380...

Ah, what the heck. It doesn't affect me at all. I'll let it go...

The TSA is the wedge at the forefront of turning the USA into a fascist police state. If there is even a drop of revolutionary blood left in us, we should be sending these junior gestapo wannabe's to the unemployment line, starting at the very top.

recoil pad / butt cuff for 1920's Winchester 1894 with crescent stock

I have a Winchester 1894 with a crescent stock. I like shooting it at the range but it is hard on my shoulder after about 15 rounds. Does anyone know of a tasteful recoil pad or cuff that fits this shape stock?

Which Tech Sight for 10/22 Appleseed?

I have the 200 model, with elevation adjustment. I like it fine, but would prefer the model 100, because it is lower to the receiver and would allow for better cheek weld. I don't know about the front sight, I guess you'd need shorter front sight, which someone mentioned.

Is it safe to fire a 1920 Winchester 1894 carbine?

Thanks for the info ... I didn't know that about the difference between carbine and rifle. I need to get some more books on Winchesters. I just read the biography of John M Browning, which is what led to the need for an 1894. Now I've got to find a way to get an 1873, and maybe someday an 1866.
