Why did US not adopt DA revolver until 1890s?

Adams revolvers were some of the early double-actions, and ended up being adopted by the UK in the 1850s. France adopted a DA revolver in 1858. Why did the US not adopt one until the 1890s?

    Sling Suggestion : AR-15

I've used the Vickers and the VTAC. IMO, the Vickers is a better choice for smaller framed people like myself. The VTAC adjusts a bit more quickly. Single point slings are for SBRs.

Question on Black vrs. Chrome BCG

Chrome BCGs are much easier to clean and look prettier. Both positives in my book.

    Safariland Gun Quick 1090 Review

This is a review of a shoulder holster I've seen precious few reviews of - a modular design by Safariland that fits many different models of pistol: http://www.safariland.com/DutyGear/product.aspx?pid=1090 This is one of the few new ideas in shoulder holsters that I've run across. Since most...

Is it safe to shoot wet guns?

The HK vid: the problem is the gas tube. That tiny gas tube can't drain as quick as a larger, shorter piston tube, so overpressure builds up, ends up blowing up the rear receiver, not the barrel.

    Thoughts on "nightstand" guns

My criteria for a nightstand gun: 1) Reliable 2) Accurate 3) Has a light 4) Shoots fast if needed 5) Manual safety or DA trigger My AR pistol currently fills that role, until I get the rifle zeroed. I can ping steel at 200 yards with the pistol, I think I can hit somebody within 15 yards even...

Opinions on BCM Gunfighter and which size latch?

Medium is perfect for me - much more working area than the standard charging handle, but not so much that it hangs up on things.

    AR Rifle for hunting

Sounds like the guy didn't even have his rifle zeroed. Shooting a hog standing still within 100 yards should be easily doable for an AR.

Best AR red dot for the money

Aimpoint Pro. Barring that, Vortex Sparc. I've dropped it from 5ft onto concrete and it still runs.

    AR15 home defense ammo

    That's why they have 30rd mags. :D

    .22lr AR kits

Gotigers said pretty much everything already. I think you would be wise to not feed a DI gun too much .22 ammo - after a few hundred rounds or so, fire a 5.56 round or two to clean the gas tube out. Replacing a gas tube is cheap and easy, of course... takes more time to remove the handguards...

    Recoil Reduction

A good compensator will indeed help. I've heard great things said about the FSC556.

    AR15 home defense ammo

I use Prvi M193 - because that's what I actually have, and the stuff has been accurate and reliable. I don't want to have a 'self defense' load that I haven't shot a few full mags of. I wanted to get the 70-something grain Black Hills stuff, but it vanished in the post-election buying frenzy...

is a piston ar really more reliable?

A from the factory piston gun by good manufacturers can be marginally better. I doubt a retrofit kit would be.

    Saboteur operating on armslist?

BS, says I. A buyer savvy enough to identify the type and maker of a bullet with ease is too dumb to look down the bore of a used gun before purchasing? Somebody's trying to make an urban legend.

Here's why you don't shoot over water.

Shooting tracers can be very... illuminating. Also, anybody who can afford a FA M16 lower can surely afford to own ridiculous stretches of land, as well.

    Decline in range use

It's tough to shoot when you have no ammo. There's not enough plasma in my whole body to pay for a brick of .22LR. :p Funny thing is, I bought a .22 conversion bolt for my ARs just so that I could avoid the expensive ammo problem. That didn't work out so well.

Which auto loader has the worst trigger?

PPK - the DA trigger, SA is fine. The DA trigger is damn near childproof.
