how long does it take to wear out a barrel?

JimKirk... I hope my wife doesn't read that. I got her convinced I need about 8 different rifles .... So I don't overheat any of them when I go shooting....:D

    H414 and H380

In my .22-250, I use H-380 behind Sierra 52gr SPBT HP "Match" bullets. At 40 grs H-380 shoots about the same groups as that bullet being pushed by 36grs of IMR 4064. When warm out...and they are all good groups. When cold the 4064 stays good...while the H-380 groups loosen up a tad.

Neck vs Full length - Saiga

Your Favorite 100+ Yard Target Rifle?

Welll... You are probably going to love both of Granma's guns. ;) My own personal favorite at the moment is my 6MM Rem. (Rem. 700 VLS) Why? Because it will shoot a ragged hole, when I do my part. Next is my .22-250 (Rem 788)....But, 200 yds is about max that I shoot it.

    .270 and .308

I'd rather shoot a .270 hunting in "open" country...and for sheep. Better downrange ballistics for the longer shooting distances encountered in this type hunting.

Winchester Model 70 vs. Remington 700

I have had numerous, and still do have, some Remington 700s. I had one in .270. 'Twas a great gun. ... a model 700 "Classic". I have had a couple and still do have one Win mod. 70. My current Mod. 70 is a .270 WSM. I like this Win mod. 70-"Coyote". It is a good shooter and looks kinda...

Do most of the anti-gun celebs have armed body guards?

Mike U- Ted turner and I do not agree on politics but... he has ranches nearby and I have had numerous dealings with him as a Taxidermist. (I used to mount dead things for him when I was in that line of work). 1) I have never seen a body guard with him. 2) He once told me has Quail hunting...

    Missoula Montana

Yup... "Gun Control" means being a good shot, here in MT. Like has already been said, Missoula is the most liberal town in our state..... In reality that means it would still be ultra-conservative by folks in Seattle, or anywhere on the left coast. Those hippie looking kids in Missoula are...

Should at least everyone own a Remington 700?

I have had several over the years. .300 Win Mag, .25-06, .270. (BDLs) Right now, only one - 700VLS in 6MM Rem. Liked them all. They all did their jobs well on various critters. For the money...pretty good guns.........imho

Rifle for Hunting - Rem 700?

Good choice. I have had several over the years. I have one 700 at the moment. I have always achieved good accuracy with them. I do lighten up the trigger pull on them. (They come from the factory with a really heavy trigger pull. It is a very simple job to adjust the trigger lighter. Any...

    Lee Anniversary Kit Fans?

I have one. Am still using most of the original kit, too. As time passed, I went to a digital scale and a different champher/deburr tool ....but, still use everything else. Hard to beat it at the price.

I'm glad I live out in the Boonies of Montana and can go shoot at our club whenever I want without issues....and usually...with no other people present.

Newbie reloading question - .xxx off the lands

Stoney Point OAL, here too. .And, It still takes some experimenting with OAL to figure what seating depth is best with what load & what brand/style/weight of bullet. At least it gives you a known reference point.

How to tell if my barrel's shot out?

I assume you have treated the barrel with a good copper remover to make sure is not copper fouled. Only reason I mention it is because I have to foam the barrel my .22-250 regularly (after shooting 30-50 rounds) or it starts spreading the group out.
