    1897 sling suggestion

I would like to sling my 1897 without heatshield, but was looking for suggestions. Was thinking maybe a barrel band 2-3" past end of mag tube ??? I don't want to hang anything off the mag tube, had thought about having existing mag band screw drilled and tapped, but they're pretty small.

Looking for an 1897 expert, Please?

Drilled, tapped and installed a front bead this weekend, but have had no luck getting the screws loose that hold the barrel band on. The magazine band bushing will rotate slightly, but the screws will not budge from it. Tried blow drier on hot , got it hot enough to the boil the Liquid Wrench I...

    1897 question

May sound stupid, but on a 97 takedown, after the mag tube is rotated, my barrel band slides forward with the mag tube on the barrel. It's not supposed to do that I assume.

    Bead installation

I ordered a drill, tap, and set of beads from Brownells, and I have a drill press, now, 64 dollar stupid question, how do I determine exact top dead center of barrel to center punch and drill. Also, I have a couple that are tapped through, installed, and I assume filed to bottom out flush on the...

    1897 questions

Just received a 97 at Christmas time (My younger brother passed away in July, and my nieces came over to my Mom's Christmas day and brought it to me. Said they wanted me to have a rememberance from their Dad, pretty special). I dated it to 1920 manuf., and it is a takedown, pretty decent shape...

    Timney trigger in Springfield 1903

I love my old Sporterized 03 and wouldn't take for it. It's so handy with it's 20" bbl, and it shoots several weights into 3/4" (although it does slightly prefer heavier Sierra MK's). I do want to do something with the trigger though, and was wondering if a gunsmith was required to install a...

    CCL renewal Sunday

Well, I finally got with the instructor to do the renewal for my CCL Sunday. This time, I decided to use the P11 (took the Combat Commander along for insurance). I haven't shot the P11 in 1 1/2 years. I did the "fluff & buff" on it after shooting it when I first got it, and have lubed with...

    Holster question

I have an Askins Avenger that I dearly love, except, it's for the HP I used to have. My question is, (and YES, I know I'm cheap) would it be possible to wet the holster with something, and basiclly "Reform" it to fit my Combat Commander (In a plastic bag of course)?? The guns are same bbl...
