Your Favorite Inefficient and Obsolete Guns

For the size, capacity, and caliber, the Beretta 84 makes very little sense these days. Still keep one in the safe. Can't help but love it.

Gun finish, Beauty and its importance to you?

Kind of depends on the gun for me. Long guns get beaten up pretty good. With pistols, I'm all over the place. I like the way blued 1911s age. Glocks I don't much care. I seem to be a little more careful with my Berettas. I have no idea why.

    Friday Night, Downtown Houston

Yeah, there's a big nutjob with dreds that hangs over in the area. I believe he's a Katrinite...he cropped up about the right time. My hangout of choice in that area is Sambuca. No 51% sign. The guy I'm thinking of might not be who you had in mind when you bought your P3AT. Les Baer is the...

TSA experience - re. handgun checking

I fly with both handguns and long guns quite a bit. I've yet to have any trouble with the TSA. There's no way I would attempt to fly using the LifeJacket device to enclose a pistol.

A caveat about the "open carry" trend.

Note that Bogie specifies "IN YOUR AREA." Believe it or not, a significant portion of the country is precisely nothing like Scranton. ;)

A caveat about the "open carry" trend.

Bogie gives good advice. I agree that it is important to exercise our rights in order not to lose them, but it's also important to be smart about it. The spectacle of a gun rights advocate being carted off in cuffs doesn't help us too much.

Joe Horn - Sounds like simple self-defense

Well, you almost had it...right up until the last line. We have precisely the same protections when it comes to defending neighbor's property as we do our own.

MCGunner, "Theft during the nighttime," and "criminal mischief during the nighttime" are just additional things someone can get shot for in addition to "arson, burglary, robbery, [and] aggravated robbery" with regard to property crime. The burglary stands alone just fine (note the commas...

You're right, Guillermo. Self Defense was his defense. We're just discussing the other statutes that could specifically have come into play had he been True Billed.

Another Joe Horn thread, specific Penal Code content only please.

I keep trying to make this point, TR, but no one wants to listen to me. One of my best friends, a shooter and a lawyer, looked at it, argued with me, re-read it, then said, "Oh..." The word "or" is especially important when discussing statutes.

No...there's an "or" between Burglary and Theft During the Nightime in 9.42 also. Those "or's" will get you every time. Two separate defenses. My opinion only.

www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5864151.html Texas' Deadly Force laws leave room to protect a third person's property. This was a pretty extreme test of that defense, but the Grand Jury held with Mr. Horn in spite of influence from Quanell X and others. The statute is fairly clear...
