After a shooting -- now what?

Actually, that's not quite what the police do. Check out this excellent article written for police supervisors: http://www.laaw.com/highstress.htm Here's a relevant quote: Interesting to me, because this advice rather exactly parallels Ayoob's 5-point checklist: 1. That person attacked me...

After a shooting -- now what?

No, that's a very bad idea. It's not that "telling the truth" is a bad idea -- it's that you quite literally do not know what the truth is immediately after a life threatening event, and you quite literally no way of knowing what kind of tricks your adrenalin-soaked mind has played on you during...

    Any other liberals?

Yes, but in a moral sense, not so much in a political sense. You'll find a lot of my musings on those topics on my website, if you're interested. (Link's in the sig line.) pax

    And are they surprised?

Mrs. A ~ Yes, Christians are so offensive that our very presence among the ranks of gun owners somehow threatens the RKBA movement ... Well, maybe that's overstating it. It's good that we own guns, that's a given. And it's okay that we have beliefs and things. But heaven forbid...

    Shirt vs. IWB print

Dark colors work better than light colors. Material that's a little stiff works better than thinner, softer, or more flowing material. Stripes tend to accentuate the lump, while plaids and prints tend to hide it. A shirt that is too tight will always print, while one that is too loose...

    Stun Gun Claims

The cartridges are durable. Legality is very dependent upon your jurisdiction. It's legal most places but not everywhere. Some friends of mine and I had a chance to go hands on with a Taser C2 not long ago. And after doing that, if I wanted to carry a Taser I would be very very aware of...

Gun clearing technique that helps prevent NDs

The method I use: Drop magazine. Rack the action. Lock action open. Look in the chamber and magazine well. Probe chamber and magazine well with pinky finger to be sure my eyes didn't lie. ("Check by sight and feel.") Close action. Drop hammer with muzzle pointed in safe direction. I...

    Hearing protection?

Hmmm, when I read this I just realized how totally spoiled I've gotten by the electronics. Doesn't it bug you to know someone could walk onto the range behind you without you hearing them? It never used to bother me, but it sure does now. I just don't like being startled while I'm shooting...

    Hearing protection?

I always wear electronic muffs. Good ear protection is important. I certainly don't want to end up like my dad, who has to bluff his way through most conversations and who misses a lot of important things because he just didn't hear what was happening. Although he wears them, he absolutely...

    Unarmed defense against a handgun

A personal sonic alarm sounds like a great idea, right up until you ask yourself, When was the last time you heard of anyone running to find out what set off a car alarm? Maybe somebody did once, but I've never heard of it. pax

    Gun magazines

Joining the NRA makes no sense for you, but joining the NFA does -- that's the National Firearms Association of Canada. They want to be the NRA's northern counterpart. Website is http://www.nfa.ca/. Their magazine, the Canadian Firearms Journal, is decent enough. pax

    Unarmed defense against a handgun

Strambo ~ Good post. Need to add one option that isn't often discussed: getting the gun away & just shooting the guy with it. There are a lot of leverage-based techniques for twisting the gun away that do not require the extreme physicality that strike-based techniques do. But once the gun...

    Apparently I'm Tactical

Not a criticism - a question. If you knew something was not right as you entered, why didn't you simply turn around and exit? What were your thought processes at that point? pax

    1 thousand, 2 thousand, 3 thousand MORE???

Nope. At least once a year, I do a complete inspection of all the itsy-bitsy parts of my Glock, replace springs and anything that looks a little worn. If you do good basic maintenance on a regular basis, you can catch problems before they really start to cause problems. pax

Help with Sig 226: Slide won't stay back.

Easy way to eliminate the last part of your question is to shoot with a different magazine. If it suddenly starts locking back for you, it was the magazine. If not, look elsewhere. pax
