I had to have a safe drilled today - No cheap locks!

I could not get a safe open yesterday no matter what I did so had to have a safe tech drill the lock. It was a no-name cheap dial. After getting in, he found that a part in the lock mechanism broke. Between drilling and replacing the lock, it will be $600 because the original dial is in a...

    What laws can be justified?

This quote is from the "Are we fighting the wrong battles?" thread: This line of thinking is genereally boils down to gun laws don't enforce themselves, so why have them. But then most laws don't enforce themselves. Is there any reason why I can't substitute a word from the quote above and...

The Dallas firearm rush is officially dead!

I went into Bullet Trap today and they had lots of guns on sale. I’d never seen anything like it there. I asked a clerk and he said the rush is over and they are way too deep on guns, thus the sale. I asked about ammo and the clerk said 9mm and .45 suppy is getting better but things like .380...

The negatives of the recoil reducing stocks?

I have seen a few people speak nicely of recoil reducing stocks on a shotgun, and a few people point out that that with a surefire light is a bad combo, but a lot of people don't sound like fans of them in general. I though I'd ask for the specifics of their negatives.

A question about reduced recoil 12GA shells

As posted in my other thread, I am thinking a 20 guage for the wife. But I know there are reduced recoil 12 guage shells out there. Do these reduced recoil 12 guage shells mimic the recoil of a 20 guage?

Thinking 20 Guage shotgun for wife, thinking Saiga in particular

My wife used to work outside the home and her concealed handgun was good protection. But now she is staying home with our new baby and I think it is time to move a different direction. Case in point, I asked where her gun was at that moment. “In my purse”. “Where is your purse right now”...

A lengthy story on how Gaston Glock rose to the top of the handgun pile

The story is too long for me to post. http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/09_38/b4147036107809.htm

Got an anti-nut in the family? Time is on your side!

My MIL has been bashing my having/carrying a gun for about 6 years now. She frequently vocalizes that I must be afraid, ect., and that she is not afraid. And if she did need protection she would just dial 911 and why can't I just do that? She does have an unfired .22 pistol “just for target...

BS Check: Texas law says no FMJ on less than 1000 yard RIFLE ranges

The range I normally shoot at has a pistol range and a rifle range. The rule since I have been shooting there is no FMJ on the rifle range, the logic being there are houses behind the berm and FMJ might tend to riccochet more. Ok, I get it. But I have been allowed to shot my UZIs (9mm/.45)...

Kids (legal!) solo hunting leads to woman shot in the head!

I didn't see this posted anywhere. Frankly I am shocked that in some states you can give a gun and legally send a 10 year old "hunting" on public land. I would not stay at a range that an unattended 14 year old was shooting guns, and it this is beyond outrageous. If you are on your own...

I am trying to gauge exactly how to react to MIL

My MIL is an anti-gun loon and normally I just ignore her antics but she just topped herself and I am trying to gauge exactly how to respond. This happened last week but I just found out about it yesterday. My wife is 9 months pregnant with our first child and packs a gun. MIL does not...

Is there a serious glut of 1911's on the market or what?

I went to the Market Hall gun show in DFW this last weekend and it seemed just about every table was selling used 1911's of various models but generally older full sized. Not that I stopped and stared but I didn't even see people seriously looking at ANY of them. Are 1911's to the point...

I guess our church is pro-CCW!

Today the preacher asked folks which of America's attributes people were most thankfull for, and tossed out some suggestions. One was "this being Texas we have the right to keep and bear arms" and then said "some of you are probably exercising this right right now". I had never heard...

    A friend just got a 500 S&W - Little nervious

A new friend of mine went to a gun show with me yesterday. I didn't know it but he is very interested in large caliber handguns. Every time he saw one he'd stop and look it over. One table was selling a very lightly used 2.75" S&W 500 model for $600. New price around here is around $1,000...

    Re: Shtf

Since the thread got locked just as I was going to post and the OP irks me: Honestly, where do these people come from??? Do you think come trouble you are going to happen on a boy scout campground, hack out a tee-pee, eat up a few cans of food, then camping excercise complete, come back to...

AR15 failing to put the extractor around the rim as the bolt grabs the round

When I shoot my AR15 I usually use an old Colt 20 round mag and usually only load 5 rounds at a time. I have not had any feeding problems with that. A friend shot it Sunday and loaded the mag full. At that the gun failed to go into battery and failed to shoot. Turns out the problem was the...

An alternate idea to “mandatory insurance to reduce gun violence”?

After reading the thread on mandatory insurance to reduce gun violence, I thought, let’s cut right to the logical conclusion and require everyone to get insurance coverage for their potential criminal acts. This would put the cost of being deemed a risk on the proper villains. Are you a...

Any amusing stories about friends discovering guns in your house?

The thread about household gun management reminded me of an amusing story. Most of our close friends know about our home’s gun culture. Most of them are part of it but one close friend is not (not anti though). He used to be single (The wife is proud, said friend had a New Year’s Eve party...

Border agents to use paintball guns to fend off attackers

If it wasn't from a real news story I would have laughed at it as a joke. http://www.azfamily.com/news/homepagetopstory/stories/Tucson_local_news_042308_border-patrol-paintball.93c72b2d.html

    Securing the house

I personally believe we tend to put a little too much emphasis on using guns to protect our families while at home. At least compared to a little preventative medicine. If you look at other countries, much more thought is put into physical barriers. My wife and I are looking to start a family...
