By the way, what were you thinking when you actually gave up your checking account number to PayPal and thus the rest of the world? At least with a credit card you can dispute it.
Yup, almost 61 and like my HD shotgun with 00 Buck and Slugs... maybe when I get old I'll drop down to birdshot. Kinda cool that we've got so many younger people interested... that is real encouraging!
If you like the way the Mossberg 500 fits/feels, that is a great start. I've put some 5,000 shots downrange from mine and feel very good about using it in scary situations. Start with any of the "Big 4", follow McCracken's advice, practice, and you'll be doing just fine.
Sorry... to answer your question, a light in a HD situation is a good idea. You can spend more than you paid for the SG for a Surefire forend light or less for others... middle of the road is the Weapons Light System 2000 which has the recoil shock absorbing needed on a SG. Search the archives...
First thing to get might be a full buttstock, with or without pistol grip on it. Also, you'll probably get a reply or two that says "buy ammo, use up, repeat" which is to say being intimate with your shotgun is more important that anything you can hang on it... Enjoy!:p
A network I belong to shares legitimate job openings and this one seemed important enough to share with THR members. The position is with a mfr of rifles and shotguns in New England. Here's the text of the info. Please note... I know nothing more than what is pasted in below, other than to...
Just a thought... at those short distances (like I have) you might want to pattern the Federal Personal Defense shells. The ads say they have a faster opening pattern to get a bit more spread at short ranges. In my Mossy they work very, very well and do spread some, but with a more consistent...
Aerosol expanding insulating foam (in spray-paint style cans) is a great way to fill up space in the hollow stock and you can embed wood pieces to screw into and also create tubular and rectangular compartments for weights or spare parts. I use a brand called "Space Invaders".
I became intimate with 81mm mortar rounds dropping out of my hands into the tube and going boom next to my ear in the early '60s. Sometimes we'd do a couple of 106 recoiless rifles just for fun. No hearing protection. Small stuff like M1's on the range and 1911's didn't even count. Full auto...
Hmmm, good thoughts all. I've got a bead but basically practice short-range HD type rapid shooting as more of pointing/body-fit-aim. Never actually had to do it, but based on practice I also think in the dark my weapon-mounted light (yet another big argument) would be a pretty good "sight"...
... or you could go to a really good HD round (no lack of argument on this topic) like the Remington Reduced Recoil 00 Buck or Federal Personal Defense, shoot as much as you want, and never worry about overheating. You know the gun, why not stick with it.
... if that money is just burning a...
Correia... I don't know you well enough to criticize, but jeeez have you ever considered switching to , oh I don't know, maybe writing music or sumthin? I mean not with a sharp pencil or anything!
When I first started viewing The Firing Line, Runt's postings were among my favorites... Somewhere (sorry, old geezer memory) I vaguely remember something about some heavy changes in her life. It is encouraging to see her in her new incarnation as Betty! (also my sister's name). Good pix!
Here's what all SG newbies hate to hear (apologies if you already know all of this):
1. Read ALL of Dave McC's threads here and on TFL.
2. Bird, Buck, and Slugs will each pattern differently in most guns, each is a study unto itself. Size A vs. Brand B sv Type C... lots of combo's.
3. I...
My father and my two uncles (his two brothers) personally won WWII and I have proof...
Although living in different parts of the country, they would occasionally convene a war history conference, cleverly disguised as a family reunion. They would then, and only then, proceed to tell a few...
My closest ranges at which I can shoot my 12ga are pistol ranges limiting me to slugs only. (I've never figured out why, but Oh, OK). So my extras are lead-removal gunk and a serious bore brush... after 100 slugs down range a mere bore snake won't do the job in removing bigtime lead residue.
