    $300 ish Scope

Hey all. Scope options have got my head spinning. I'm looking to spend around $300 on a scope for punching paper and other targets out to 600-700 yards. What floats yr boat in that arena?

AR Options Got My Head Spinning

thanks for all the good info. I was thinking a 16" barrel might be a little on the short side for my situation. Just found this today... http://www.del-ton.com/Rifle_Kit_p/rkt102.htm Looks like all I'd have to do is take the lower parts from that, put them together with this stripped...

AR Options Got My Head Spinning

Yeah, that's a road I might take. I just don't know what options would be best for my needs...popping ground hogs/and coyotes at medium range. I get on the different companies websites to look at uppers and its like the descriptions are in a different language cause I just don't know that much...

AR Options Got My Head Spinning

I'm looking for my first AR-15, and naturally don't know much about them yet. I've pounded the forums for a few days now and I'm catching on a bit. I figured I'd post to see what your opinions are of what I should get. I'd be using it for plinking and varmints out to no more than 200yds...

    22 hornet in what?

I've looked long and hard at the different short-midrange varmint cartridges and their wildcat counterparts. I'm sold on a 22 hornet for my next rifle. Now I need to decide what rifle I'd like to get it in. I'm thinking either a T/C Encore or a Savage...either the 40 or 25 walking varmint...

    Groundhogs and Muskrats

So anyway....back to my original question. I'm looking for opinions of people with first hand experience with 17hm2, 17hmr, 22mag, or 22hornet on groundhogs at 100-150yrds. Thanks but no thanks for all the suggestions on other calibers or traps or other solutions not mentioned already.

    Groundhogs and Muskrats

thanks, I think the .223 would be a little much for what I'm doing...I'd also like to keep the noise down, otherwise i'd just use my 270. Before I posted I searched around to see which of the rounds mentioned in my first post were better "all around" and the wind drift argument came up...

    Groundhogs and Muskrats

Those little buggers are reeking havok on the bank of my pond farthest away from my house 100-150 yrds away. Beyond that they disappear into the brush, and they won't come over to this side of the pond. My 10/22 just won't reach out that far accurately. I'm trying to decide between the 17hm2...

    Air Travel w/ Pistol

Wow, what a mess. Looks like I'll be going without then. Thanks for the eye opener. No wonder my friends from Chicago are gun-o-phobes.

    Air Travel w/ Pistol

This will be my first experience air traveling w/ a firearm. I'd like to get an idea of how it works and what I should expect as far as check in and pick up. I have a concealed carry license in Ohio, and know I won't be able to use it where I'll be going. So i'll have to open carry or just...

    Ruger SR9 range report

Love mine to. It's a sweet pistol; if you've shot one you know it. Let the dingdongs bash the recalls all they want. I'd rather buy a product from an AMERICAN company that wants to fix its problems than from a foreign company or a company that doesn't think it has any promblems. I live in...

    Dudds?

Thanks for all the replies. I did try to shoot the round again and again nothing. It'll be a few days till i can take it a part but at least now i know what to look for.

    Dudds?

Just got done shooting some reloads in 30-06. Loaded up 5 rounds and when i pulled the trigger on the 3rd one click...nothing happened. Cycled the action and checked out the round. It had a nice deep dimple from the firing pin; i shook it, and there's definitely powder in there. Why does...

    What else do i need?

Well, just about ready to shoot my new rifle for the first time. This is my first rifle other than a bang around sks so i wanted to check w/ you guys to see if there's anything else i should probably get for cleaning my rifle. Got the hoppe's one piece cleaning rod, the jag, the brush, the...

    Tips on reloading 7.62x39???

Yes, check bore diameter, so you know what caliber bullets to get. If it's .311 I like the sierra 125gr prohunter over H335. But i'm running that through an SKS.

How to decide what ring height to use

Just got my first rifle. My first scope is in the mail. How do i decide what ring height i need? Or do i just have to try a few out? The rifle is a marlin xl7 and the scope is a nikon buckmaster 3-9x40mm. Thanks

    Magnum pistol primers

If you can look at a bunch of manuals without buying one i'd do that. There might not be any recommendations for your powder w/ a magnum primer...then again there may be a ton of them.

What are you using your 204 for?

Mine gets used mostly for Elk, and the occasional Yeti. Bullet placement is key though.

    Magnum pistol primers

The points are, 1. Out of the 8 or 9 manuals I looked through, the Nosler manual was the only one that listed a magnum primer for the specific powder and bullet weight that i wanted to use. And that Nosler load was significantly lower than any other book w/ the same bullet...
