The plowhandle was originally designed by Sam Colt...probably designed for one handed quick draw. Also might have something to do with shooting on horseback, back then. It is widely agreed that the plowhandle points about as well as your own finger.
I think you've heard about all there is to hear. You might also go and check one of the other 25 or so threads asking this EXACT same question over and over.
Don't act like this is some new unexplored topic.:banghead:
Yeah, if you polish it, there will ALWAYS be fingerprints and scratches unless you vacuum seal the gun. It is easy, however, to simply polish the scratches back out again, and again, and again....
.357 big bore? LOL big bores start at .44. I've never shot a Heritage but I can guarantee you your money is better spent on a used Blackhawk. You can get one for under $300-400.
I feel just as safe with my Blackhawk as I do my GP-100. I can fire all six rounds just as fast SA as DA. And I rarely practice. Follow up shots especially with the SBH hammer are easy because the muzzle rise puts the hammer right back under your thumb. Six shots are more than enough, I'm not...
You're right David, the thousands of people carrying five shot revolvers are all in grave danger.:banghead:
Revolvers have been FIVE shot ever since the 1860s when they were invented. You couldn't load all six and carry safely. Those five shooters put a LOT of people in their graves.
Cleetus, let me put it like this. Smiths are good for keeping in your pocket for the extreme rare occassion that you might have to shoot somebody. On the other hand, they are NOT well suited to being a "range gun" or any gun that you fire frequently. Smiths will wear out, and will go out of time...
Where in that article does it say, and I quote "ANY actual case where having a 7th or 8th shot made all the difference between living and dying."
Doesn't say a word about that, how many bullets really did anything. Just because somebody fired twelve shots means nothing.
Again, David, you...
NO, current Smith and Wessons are NOT worth the premium they demand. New production guns are highly inferior to old Smiths, they have an unreliable and ugly lock built into the gun, and the parts are made from MIM, which is pressed metal powder...IE the particle board of metal. They also feature...
NO, there are not. Like I said, show me ONE, I doubt you can find it.
And to answer the original question, you are far more likely to be killed by a plane falling out of the sky than that sixth shot you don't have. Do you really need to worry this much about something that has such an...
Yeah, that's pretty much the truth. Why else do you need 17 bullets? Revolver shooters have the discipline to put those shots where they need to be - if you actually NEED a high capacity gun you are not aiming.
Any "self defense" example where the person fired more than six from an auto is...
If you honestly think you're going to get in a gun fight in your daily life and think you need more than a handfull of rounds, if any, I would consider you a delusional whack job. If you're a cop, it's a different story.
I challenge you to show me one self defense shooting where 6+ shots are...
That stat is absolutely correct, and comes from the FBI. Further more, MOST confrontations where you might pull a gun do not end in shooting the gun even once. (that's another proven statistic) And your Dad is wrong. You're one of those pray and spray types that needs 17 9mms, aren't you? :banghead:
For those of you getting snagged, you need more practice drawing. You should immediately put your thumb over the hammer before you draw anyway.
I keep a full size 4" GP100 in my pocket (not a holster) and the hammer has never caught on anything. To draw I grab the grip and put my thumb on the...
It's only a fad on the internet because people think they're extra cool when they can post a pic of a revolver that they chopped something off of. As far as real life goes...most people use a hammer...and that is evident by the extreme lack of used hammerless revolvers.
It serves no purpose...
You can pretty easily pop in an aftermarket hammer to get your half cock back. I started out shooting black powder single actions and I like the Ruger way more than the half cock.
