I just bought a couple of factory magazines for my P226 at MidwayUsa.com.

Not cheap at $35 each but service was good, they shipped very fast, and I also got some 9 mm ammo.

Old Fuff,
I have to agree with you. Now, have you done refinishing like this before? Do I need to prepare grips by sanding off the surface, or should I just stain them over?
Thanks,
QMark
1KPerDay,
I neither asked nor prefered red-colored grips. I just did not feel comfortable to mention it to Customer Service. Do you think I should:confused:
QMark.
Recently I bought my first S&W 686-6 Plus.
It is an excellent gun! Pleasure to shoot.
There was only one little thing that bothered me - wooden grips did not fit well. Tightening the screw did not help.
I made some pictures showing a sizable gap between stocks and emailed them to S&W...
Checkman,
I definitely feel the same way and appreciate it very much.
Sometimes you cannot get all the info you need by Internet search of from the books. In case like that this Forum is the only one place to go.
And of course it is good to know that people would treat you nicely...
Thanks...
Dave1,
I am really glad you raised the question about 686 vs. 66 models.
That is how we got ArchAngelCD's expert opinion and got all the information we need. Thanks to everybody responded to my post!
I am getting ready to for another trip to the range...and maybe another gun from S&W or Colt...
Checkman, I have Second addition of Standard Catalog of S$W from my local library and you are absolutely correct - there is nothing abound my model. I do believe it 686+ (sorry, Dave1:rolleyes: )
Just ordered Third addition. I guess, I am "truly curious". I think this book is worth having.
You...
Dave,
I agree that my gun does not look like typical 686+. But I have to trust the number on the frame "686-6" as well as the the same number on the box(serial number is the same in both places:) ).
It looks like S&W SCU number for this model is 164284.
I cannot recall seeing any pictures of...
Thank you guys for the info. I guess, I just have to accept the fact that trigger and hammer are going to look that way.
I am not going to polish them. I use my S&W for shooting and it is definitely a sweet one. I can live with its look.
And Joe, you are correct -the underlug is only half...
I just replied to "Post pics of your revolvers" tread.

I did not feel like it was the best place to ask some questions I have.
I have S&W Model 686+ with 5" barrel, wood grips, HIVIZ front sight. What is a right name...
Here is my The First and The Only one... so far:) 686+.
It's less than a month old. I am taking it to the range almost weekly. It is on 38 Special diet. After a little sight adjustment it shoots really nicely (talking about gun only:) ). Hopefully I am getting better as well. Can you tell that...
I got a day off today and decided to visit some local gun shops. And look what I found.
Brand new S&W model 686 with 5" barrel, 7-shot cylinder, wood grips, HIVIZ front sight. I had to choose between 4' barrel with rubber grips and 5' barrel with wooden ones. It was easy.:D
Many Thanks to...
Many Thanks...and more questions
I would like to start from saying Thank You Everybody for replying to my post and for your recommendations.
Here is where I am standing right now...
I really wanted to buy a New 7-round gun. It should be new mostly to get S&W lifetime warranty and also because...
I am new to this forum, so please forgive me if my questions are too obvious for experienced members.
I would like to buy a revolver that has to be used mostly for recreational target shooting. In other words - for fun!
Hopefully, I should never use it for self defense, but you never know...
