Shooting 38 and 357 in same session

When shooting 38 and 357 together I have heard that shooting a lot of 38 and then switching to 357 (or maybe the reverse) is bad because the residue from the one can cause a pressure spike or something to that effect. Is this true? If so what is the best order of operations for shooting these...

Anyone own/use either? Speed Dialer sheath/Guardian Angel

I just bought a spyderco Waved Endura after reading so many good reviews for such a reasonabley priced knife. The speeddialer sheath sounds great, anyone have one? Does it work as advertised? Which model? I have been looking at Kimbers Guardian Angel pepperspray delivery system. Looks...

New to Shotgun, help with a few basic Questions

    1) 2 3/4 vs 3inch mag. More powder or more lead, or both? Any problem feeding the 2 3/4 in a 3 inch gun? (reliability is #1) I am looking at an 870 2) Any suggestion for the highest penetration in a 000? Is there a really hard nickle plated brand that you can suggest? 3) Any online...

    Locktight for scope mount?

I have an aimpoint on a .500 and after about 40 shots the mount screw starts to loosen. It is one of those wide A.R.M. rings which is supposed to be super strong. I read about people putting lock tight (blue?) on screws...is this a good fix? I would be really happy if I could just crank it...

Learing how to shoot (well). Professional Help Needed??

Other than a basic description of how to line up sights, I never had any training for pistol shooting. I seem to do pretty well. I do not often seem to be "outshot" at the range buy the average joe. I practice with my snap caps and seem to work the DA trigger pretty well but wonder about...

Night Sights and Light vs Light laser, Please Advise!

For the basic bedside home defense pistol, THR and my LEO friends have talked me into getting a pistol mounted light. I do not feel I can accurately shoot and hold a light. No light = no target ID...so that is settled though there are good arguments pro and con the gun mounted light. Next...

    Are Aimpoints that great?

I recently mounted an ultradot matchdot on my S&W .500 and seems just fine. At 170$ a good value. Looked at a similar Aimpoint...450$ the guy at the store said that the aimpoint is used by the military becaues it has no parallex/distortion and is much more accurate, thus the high cost....I...

Help! Mounting Ultra-dot on .500 AR owner please advise

I have been looking for some low profile rings to mount a 30mm ultradot on a hunting pistol (s&w .500 PC compensated hunter) The rings that come with the ultradot are really high, and if I could get some a little lower I could get the pistol in this nice holster I have. Ultra dot is...

    Help! Mounting Ultra-dot on .500

The rings that come with the ultradot are really high, and if I could get some a little lower I could get the pistol in this nice holster I have. Ultra dot is pretty much a straight 30mm tube so there is no need for clearance. I see some low rise (4mm rise) rings for AR-15s. They...

List of Advantages of Revolvers + rant

While I constantly hear autoloader users talking about the thousands and thousands of rounds they shoot without malfunctions, I sometimes wonder. Spending a lot of time at shooting ranges I see a LOT of autoloader failures...the most common and prominent one "failure to go into battery" so you...

Help! Need some tips about sights....gun store guy is no help!

After a 12 year period of not shooting I am back at the range (Angeles Crest outside Los Angeles) I missed a lot of 2$ shots on the 50 yard row of iron targets with my .500. Then....guy next to me had me try a rugar 40cal rifle with a RED DOT sight on it....(it was supposedly a really...

Do shooting gloves do anything? If so....

Just put 120 rounds of maxed 500gr through my .500mag. There are a few "tender" spots on my hand. (this is my second time shooting it and it is so fun, I couldnt stop wrapping the steel targets around the poles) I try to avoid gloves of any sort (for labor, boxing etc) in the belief that hands...

Compensator vs Porting on S&W .500, please advise...

I bought a performance center .500 compensated hunter with a 6.5 inch barrel since I back pack a lot in bear country. I felt the 4 inch barrel model lost a lot in the power department. I have also read that the performance center compensator is not that great and others on the forum have...

Removing compensator from Performance Center .500. Please advise

I have a S&W performance center .500. It is the compensated hunter with a 6.5 inch barrel. I would like to remove the compensator. I do not think it does a whole lot. Unless I have missed something, it is not removable, is has to be cut off. Any problem with my cutting it off myself? I...

Question for TTR8 owners and a comment about Revolvers vs Autos...

Question: Is there a way to set up the TTR8 with a light/laser so that you can activate them without taking your hands off the grips? On the glock the switches can be activated with the thumb while keeping your regular shooting platform, this is nice. My comment............. For the last...

No rails for my Glock, but

I want a light. I am out of luck? Can I get a new "bottom" with rails? Can rails be attached or is it a lame "rigged up" deal? I have a 23, and I really would like to keep it but I have become convinced that having the light and the gun together is the way to go. Thank you

Putting a light on a revolver

My brother in law who is a LEO keeps telling me that I need a glock with a rail mounted light for my home defense gun. With his many years of experience clearing houses etc, I have to give it some thought. The light and the gun are together and you have a much better shooting platform that...

How do you reply to this comment by anti-gun

That most of the guns that end up in the hands of crooks are stolen from homes in which they are not properly locked up. So by taking guns out of homes you also take them off the street. Certainly the if there is a demand, they will get their guns but wonder if this is true that most of the...

other than reducing blast to stabilize the handgun? EG I have a S&W PC compensated hunter with a 6.5 inch barrel. Would removing the compensator have any effect on the bullets speed or accuracy (even minor) Just curious Thanks for patience with new to guns
