Have you ever dated an anti? How'd it go?

Married one. She put up with me for about 25 years then accepted an invitation to go to the range and do "gun kindergarten". Now she burns more ammo than I do.

Why the hate for the XD?

I shot 1911's for decades and switched to revolvers. I have an XD9SC and I tell everyone the same thing: I hate everything about it....except the way it shoots. It fits my hand extremely well and points naturally. NOTHING else is as important to me. It's never hiccupped once....yet. I LOVE...

    wireless target viewing system

You know, most of the ranges in Europe and lots of the higher end ones here (college shooting teams) have gone to electronic scoring. Safer and faster to shoot (no cease fires), don't need a spotting scope, and cheaper in the long run (the bull is just an open black hole, the scoring rings are...

Loaded chamber indicators on certain guns like XD's

Got an XD9SC. Never noticed either the grip safety or the LCI. About 1000 round through it so far (fairly recent purchase). No stoppages so far. Honestly, if it doesn't shoot out of the box pretty reliably and accurately, it's going bye bye. Either back for warranty service or getting sold...

What's the worst shooting you're ever seen at the range?

At the old range at Barnwood Arms, there were a few times when an employee would walk in wearing earmuffs and say "Cease Fire!!!" and then once everyone was quiet would say: "Look, let me explain something...the offices are upstairs. We have rounds hitting the ceiling, and even tho they're...

What are your gun plans for 2016?

Had a .460 S&W on the want list for a while. Yes, I know... how many people buy one and fire 2 rounds and trade them in. Probably shoot 99% hot .45 Colt and a smattering of .454 Casull and the occasional full house flame thrower. I look at it like shooting .38 in a .357.

Do many people purchase an $800.00 380 pistol?

If I am looking for a handgun for a specific purpose, and it fits my hand and points well and is accurate and reliable, I have no problem paying whatever. If it doesn't do those things the gun is worthless regardless of the price. And in the big picture the cost of the gun is a drop in the...

    .357 magnum 158gn lead projectiles

All the above and I've switched to Missouri Bullet .357's 158 grain SWC with the Hi-Tek coating in Brinell 18. I'm shooting 14 grains of 2400 and I'm getting virtually no leading. Don't know all the engineering magic behind the coating, but it's working for me.

Open sights at 100yds with older eyes

For shooting at the range with my bolt action milsurps, I went to Jaggi Novas and took one of my rifles to the optometrist so we could try different corrections to get a perfect front sight focus. Knobloch, Champion, and Varga all make similar orthoptic glasses. I shoot a 42 cm lens to get...

Eyesight correction for service rifle sights

Not a competition shooter anymore but I collect bolt service rifles. I finally got a pair of Jaggi Novas and I use a 42mm lens that is built to focus on the front sight. Works great.

Why is the Nagant 1895 the only gas-sealing revolver?

Summing what everyone else has said, the design is an answer in search of a problem.

Ok, I need a new knife.

I've been carrying a Kershaw Blur for the last several years and can't find anything I don't like about it.

Telling wife how many guns you actually own

Mine did look in the safe once and saw a recently acquired Mosin Nagant M44 and asked where that came from. I said "Well it's a long story but I guess over the winter the M91/30 and the M39 made friends. . ." She got a good laugh out of that and rolled her eyes.

Telling wife how many guns you actually own

Weeeelll, sounds like mine when I got married. She put up with my habit because she loved the rest of me. Then after many years of marriage and trips to the range with me to keep me company (never touched one), I got a C&R and bought my first rifle under permit (an Ishapore 2A). So I was...

    Shotgun for Polar bear defence

Don't worry. I would bet money that rifles are out off camera and the bear would be a bloody rug if it woke up early. Like I said in an earlier post, UNIS has a real good track record for safety and their people are in the field day in and day out. I've seen their school policy on polar bear...

    Shotgun for Polar bear defence

You might try to get hold of whoever teaches Arctic Survival 101 at UNIS in Longyearbyen, Svalbard for some advice. Polar bear deterrence and defense is a subject covered in the course. From what I understand, it's the only college campus in the world where you are not allowed to leave the...

Hollywood's gun-toting actors and World War Two

Glenn Ford was actually a triple theater vet, serving in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. He was attached to military film making, PR, radio and combat film crews. Although those sound mundane, I imagine that doing combat filming he came under fire a bit, especially in Vietnam.
