    Semi-Auto selection

Bought a Benelli Montefeltro used on a whim for $725. Now I own two, both in 12ga. One walnut for the uplands and one synthetic for the duck blind. Trying to figure a way to get the wife to agree to a third in 20 gauge. I use them more than any other shotgun I own now. Super light and slim...

    Gas block help

As to brand, I couldn't tell you. It's not marked and I built the thing from a collection of parts from someone who abandoned the project with only half the parts to complete the build. I took another look and it must be that it was thrown in a jig backwards? I'm guessing they drill the gas...

    Gas block help

So the .295" from the back face of the block would be the correct dimension? All the pictures of the gas blocks I've seen look just like the block I have where the gas port is in the front half of the block. Mine needs to be in the back half.

    Gas block help

Got a problem. Building a 300 BLK pistol and noticed the barrel has the gas port drilled .295" off the barrel shoulder. The block I have the gas port is drilled .295" off the front of the block. Does anyone know of any .750" gas blocks that have the port drilled .295" off the back face with a...

    Ballistic Products done good

I had a problem with BP's TPS wads in 12ga 3.5 inch flavor. They don't have data for steel shot, period. They say it takes 1 1/2oz of steel shot...how do they know? I bought two of their load books and neither had data for the wad with steel shot. I made my frustrations known when I reviewed...

One size for mallards and canadas

I know that there is no panacea, but I've been hunting in northern Illinois for waterfowl for just a couple years. We get a real mixed bag of mallards and canadas. Hunting over decoys in a flooded piece of grain field. Assuming 50 yard max shots, my thoughts were 1 1/2oz buffered #1 steel...

    T/C factory sight in

Maybe I'm having a case of CRS but once upon a time didn't T/C advertise that with 2-50 grain Pyrodex pellets and a 250 grain Shockwave bullet shoot to the sights from the factory? I distinctly remember a commercial on TV. "Just take it out of the box and go hunting"...something along those...

Saw off barrel, modify new Ithaca, or what?

Here's an option. Buy a used Ithaca 37 and buy a new 18" defense barrel from Ithaca. Or check out a Winchester model 25. Just a fixed barrel model 12 and no one will care if you cut it down, plus they are really cheap. You're going to have to make some tools to fully disassemble it (and to...

    Shotshells data

I've tried the powder mfr. sites and Alliant has only one load for 3" Rem hulls with a 1-1/4 oz load, Hodgdon has none for Rem 3". I only currently have Unique and 800x for powders. I'm waiting to grab some Steel powder and shot/wads. Just looking for a good source of published data. I don't...

    Shotshells data

I heard there was a lot of good info in there. I've been reloading and casting for years and just recently started loading shotshells. Bought a used ancient MEC 600 Jr. and I've been having a good time making buckshot loads to fool around with. I'd like to get some good steel loads to add to...

    Shotshells data

Looking for a good source of shotshells reloading data. I bought the Ballistic Products Advantage manual it is really great, as long as you have their brand of wads and hulls they sell... Got Remington hulls and claybuster wads? It's not a part of their "5,860 load recipes". Is there a good...

shotgun / big game double rifle

You could snag a valmet 412/512. I had one with 12ga. Barrels and 9.3x74r barrels. This is what you want. About $2500 with a scope mount in 2004. They also made rifle/shot gun combo barrel sets. Marrochi makes it now as the finnclassic. Good luck finding an importer.

    30-30 loads with 748

Don - I am specifically looking in the Hornady book as that is the bullet and case I have. They list 36.5 grains max. Hodgdon, who makes Winchester powders lists 32 grains max with a Sierra bullet. Both 170 grain bullets. Lyman data for a Hornady 170 grain says 35 grains max with a MAP of...

    30-30 loads with 748

It just seems like a very wide zone. 32-36.5 is more than 10% difference. Top loads in different chamberings aren't as wide a tolerance even with 748 in say the 308.

    30-30 loads with 748

Just comparing 30-30 data shows a lot of variance from different sources. Hornady lists 36.5 grains of Winchester 748 behind a 170 grain Hornady bullet other sources list 34 grains and even 32 grains as max. Seeing how the Hornady start load is 31.4 grains is it a reasonable expectation that...

    Which Lever action

I just picked up a new 3336W from Walmart for $389. The ONLY gripe I have is the grip has VERY light impressed checkering. From a functional standpoint it's a non-issue as I don't want "grip" where I'm going to be sliding my hand down to work the action, but looks-wise, it's horrible. I do...

    old school Remington autoloaders

Got a 48 Sportsman for $75 (same as 11-48) in 16ga that shots just fine still. Even better now since the choke was opened from full to IC. Best $75 ever spent.

Cut Full Choke Barrel back to Modified Choke Diameter?

How much does it really cost to get the choke opened by a gunsmith? If it does cost more than the gun did originally it would still be worth it to me to have a gun I can use vs. one I can't. C&T choke reamers cost about $100 IIRC and that would give you gunsmith level results plus they are...

    Franchi Renaissance Ejection problems

I doubt anything is worn, it has had less than 500 rounds through it. I think something must have happened when he dropped the barrels because right after is when the problems started...but stranger things have happened.

    Franchi Renaissance Ejection problems

Fired shells will not eject out of the top barrel. It snaps like they are going to eject, it just seems like the ejector doesn't have enough grunt to pop them out. The ejector spring is strong and the snap caps get ejected to the same point.
