I've reloaded lots of brass that looked like that. Some of it had "polka dots", some of it rings. I've not seen any less number of reloadings out of it so it doesn't appear to be structural, just surface discoloration.
I have to hold the bullet in place untill it is run up into the bullet seating die.
Perfectly normal. The mouth isn't flared/belled like with pistol casings so you need to guide the bullet up into the die. If you notice lead/copper shavings coming out of the die, then you may have a problem.
If you're going to get a Lee turret press, which I have as well, it is well worth the extra $ to get the Pro Auto-Disk unit. It works flawlessly and powder doesn't hang up on the sides.
