I started with a 1858 and it's a great gun to start with.
but my favorite is my 1851 in 36cal, followed by my 1860. I hate to say it, but I hardly shoot my 1858 anymore,
from what's coming out locally, yes the city fined him over 100 times, for parking his large construction trucks and stuff, in front of his house in a residential zone. I don't think that getting tickets for illegally parking your stuff multiple times gives somebody the right to shoot up city...
I should have a bunch of patches, shot cards and wadding and more balls coming in this week from an order placed at dixie. for sunday I just picked up some .735 balls at cabela's since that's what they had and wanted to shoot, they were out of any patches above 50, so any input of different...
So my wife got me a Brown Bess for Christmas, the 3rd model, east India pattern. and on Sunday finally got out on the range, the hitting 70 on Sunday after being in the 20's earlier this week was nice too. The gun was a lot of fun to shoot (first flintlock I've shot), did manage to hit an inch...

what was mention about beeswax is good tip for skiming the oxide off the top, but watch how much beeswax you add. just a little bit, if you put to much in the beeswax will ignite and burn.
