    AR Upper/Barrel Play?

I've had the upper for about two years and only recently noticed the looseness, so I have some hope. I've also swapped out the handguards like half a dozen times and replaced the gas block/sight and gas tube, so perhaps that loosened up the nut just a bit.

    AR Upper/Barrel Play?

We'll see. I have a wrench and action block on order.

    AR Upper/Barrel Play?

Appreciate the straight talk. Was suggested elsewhere that I check the barrel nut, tighten if possible (without stripping). Actually, I've used JB to fix the rear pivot pin hole on this upper already. The fit with lower was way too loose, so I just cleaned and filled the hole with JB, filed flat...

    AR Upper/Barrel Play?

I have a carbon-fiber carbine upper that has a wee bit of play between the metal barrel/chamber and CF. If you twist the handguard/barrel, there is about 1mm of movement LtR. And it is NOT a loose handguard or sight block. Looking through the ejection port, I can see the tiny movement between...

More reliable: M1 (including M1A) or AK

Of course, if there is a failure, the M1 can double as a great club...the AK, not so much.

    Most Treasured Firearm?

I got my grandfather's S&W .38 Special snubbie that he'd carried for some 25 years as an FBI agent... and his sportered M1917 that he'd bought from the War Department in 1948 for $5. Both are priceless to me.

    SKS vs AK47

They are both great rifles. Simplicity and reliability is about equal. If you want high-cap magazines, get an AK. The SKS is cheaper and somewhat more accurate. Tapco's 20 rounders are the only reliable, readily available high-cap magazine option. The original 10-round mag is great, however...

    Backup Rifle: Yay or Nay?

Tomac, as a backup, get something else that accepts same mags and ammo. Otherwise, you just have another rifle.

    Under appreciated rifle?

Absolutely the SKS. Enfield #4s are a close 2nd.

    hunting with a milsurp

Yep, I have a sportered M1917 as well. Scored in last two years' deer hunts. 150grn Federal SPs made easy work at about 75-100 yards. My grandfather willed me the rife, which he'd bought as surplus from the War Dept. in 1948 for about $5 (I have the original paperwork). Features a 4x Lyman...

LOL -- she look pretty fearsome with that.

    Most Overrated Rifle?

I agree with the M1 Carbine. I love mine, but... it's kind of a lame, overly expensive WWII "collectable." The Garand is another issue. It lives up to the hype (and the price).

Nice trio -- you've got the bases covered. Will the Aimpoint Micro survive the heating on that Ultimak mount? And I dig the TangoDown bipod. I have one on my AR...

Absolutely check on backstocked items. I'm waiting on a few! Great prices on some things, however, so I have ordered a couple times from them.

A Tale of 2 Enfield Jungle Carbines

I had an ATI stock on my #5. I didn't like it. Can't explain why. Bought a repro stock wood setup from Numrich and love it.
