    Spray paint AR 15 mag

Erm... there never was a "luster." Semi-flat black or flat gray, sure, but never a luster. Regarding carbon buildup on the followers, might as well swap them out for MagPul followers. Might replace the magazine springs too, while you're at it. I've got a pile of Okay Ind. magazines that...

    AR porting

There's also "dwell time." Basically, it's defined by (length of barrel past the gas port in the front sight tower) divided by (projectile speed). For the sake of not having to use calculus, let's just assume that projectile speeds are the same, and just use the length of the gas tube above...

Where are the cheap ARs at online?

Why do you want a cheap AR? The cheapest I've ever seen an AR was ~ $650, and that was a Del-Ton kit build on a stripped Aero Precision lower with a MagPul MBUS rear sight. Shipping, FFL transfer fees included. Nothing fancy to it at all, but it worked okay. For a complete price...

The *largest* handgun for summer / winter CCW?

Largest summer carry was a Sig P6. Largest winter was a Sig P220.

    High quality AR15 rifle shortages

hensch, I know your pain. I had to wait a long time before the stars aligned--meaning both 1) I had the cash and 2) BCM had them in stock--before I got my basic 20" A3 upper group. It was completely worth it, though. I'm a terrible shot, but a retired Marine at the range put eight or nine...

    Lifespan of an AR?

General rule of thumb is that the barrel will last about 20,000. At that time, it's a good idea to check the springs for wear and deformation, and pins for out-of-round. The bolt may need to be inspected for cracks (dye-penetrant method is least-expensive and easiest) and excessive wear, too...

pics of ACOG + side mounted aimpoint

My personal experience with the A4 and TA31RCO matches the following links almost perfectly; that is to say, the opposite of what has been said in this thread so far. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binocular_vision#Singleness_of_vision http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=34549

    Springfield 1903 Safety?

Also toss in the company "National Ordnance." Had one for a while that over time stretched itself to dangerous proportions. It's the only rifle I've ever had "re-receivered." :uhoh: Swapped it out with a Remington and it does just fine nowadays.

Magpul UBR stock...... worth the money?

The UBR butt "plate" that comes standard is rubber.

for the millionth time... yes I ran a search... cleaning GI wood without stripping it

Did you try running a search? :neener: :D As far as cleaning goes, the only thing I can think of to use would be Murphy's Oil Soap... but honestly, I wouldn't even do that. Looks okay to me. :)

    Dumb question

The 6720. :) Although, it comes with a MaTech rear sight instead of a carry handle.

Magpul UBR stock...... worth the money?

I've got two ARs, one with an A2 and the other with a UBR. To me, it's actually about the same. No "pillow" feel like the Vltor, LMT SOPMOD, or EFX-1, but still nicely consistent. The A2 and UBR are about the same weight. Extended vs. retracted, the UBR does impart a slightly noticeable...

Next Futuristic Movie Gun: You Design it!

I wouldn't mind seeing the "pepperbox" style come back. Maybe in a mini-Vulcan-cannon configuration, too. Ammo feeds down the user's arm, empty casings and links spat through the grip... a Picatinny rail and small dot sight since front and rear sight alignment would be impossible. Or a...

    SCAR bummer

My only complaints are the weird-looking stock, the fixed trigger guard (is it really that hard to change the design to use existing AR trigger guards?), and the fact they come with the now-absurd A2-style pistol grip when there's so many more to choose from out there (it is changeable and...

    Great read on Proper Lubrication

I generally use high-temp aircraft grease and turbine engine oil. Cheap and easy to come by (for me, working at an airport) and work quite well. :)

    AR lube Grease or ATF

Since I work at an airport, jet engine oil is cheap and plentiful ($15 a quart for 2380), runs quite well into all the nooks and crannies, designed for high temperature use... :) Basically, it comes down to whatever works for you.

    Diesel fuel for cleaning AR's

Diesel = Kerosene = Jet Fuel. (more or less) Diesel =/= Gasoline. That Said, I'm not sure why kerosene would be all that great of a cleaning agent.

That was a clerical typo. Ignore the fact that the erroneously-added A and L are on opposite sides of the keyboard. :neener:
