M1 Garand - Gas Plug Question for THR Members

Thank you all for your incredibly helpful input and opinions. I guess the best way would be to buy another gas plug and drill out the center like some of you recommended. I actually purchased a Schuster adjustible gas plug when I first got the rifle, and have used it when firing commercial...

M1 Garand - Gas Plug Question for THR Members

Hello everyone - I was at the range over the weekend shooting my M1 Garand courtesy of The Garand Guy. The shooter next to me (who told me he owns 2 Garands himself) offered some friendly advice that has raised the following issues. For reasons I'd rather keep to myself, I wanted to...

M1 Garand Trouble - Require THR Expertise

Update Couple of updates and pictures to hopefully resolve this problem and get my Garand firing. Bullet: - The fired round has a nice "dimple" on the primer. Here's the picture: - The .308 round that didn't fire also has a dimple, but smaller and less prounounced than the fired...

M1 Garand Trouble - Require THR Expertise

Thank you all for your advice. Looking back, I probably should've kept the M1 in its original .30-06 state, but for now I've got to deal with what's in front of me. I'll go home tonight and try dropping a round into the barrel to see if there's a tight chamber. Then I'll check out the bolt...

M1 Garand Trouble - Require THR Expertise

Hello, everyone - Yesterday, I went out and "shot" my M1 Garand for the first time. I put "shot" in quotations, because I was only able to shoot one round off. Before I get into the problem, I feel I should give some background information. I had my Garand rebarreled for a .308...

    Movie "Sniper"

I don't know much when it comes to guns, but Hollywood movies are right up my alley. Sniper is a great movie as long as you don't have any hopes for watching a great movie. Just go in knowing it's a B-movie with the best quotable line in a long time: "One shot... TWO kills." Band of...

Buying a Garand... Wait for CMP or use Garand Guy

I recently purchased a Super Premium Garand from The Garand Guy. Shipping from New Jersey to California only cost $20. I highly recommend Tony, The Garand Guy. He was extremely accomodating and great to work with.

Problem with my Garand - Require THR expertise

Thank you everyone for your advice. When I get home I'll double-check to make sure I'm dealing with a .308 barrel instead of a .30-06. It's good to know that dry-firing the Garand won't cause it much harm over the years. When I get around to firing my rifle, I'll know pretty quickly if it's...

Problem with my Garand - Require THR expertise

Hello, everyone - I recently received my Garand from The Garand Guy. Since I opted for the .308 barrel, I went out and bought a .308 snap-cap. Today, when I loaded the snap-cap, it felt a little snug. Being an idiot, I (gently) slammed the op-rod home and dry-fired the rifle. Sure...

    Average Garand Price

I just received my Garand from The Garand Guy. (http://www.garandguy.com/issuegrade.htm) It is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. Supposedly, CMP will be selling more Garands in late 2007, but I wanted a piece to shoot as soon as possible. If you can wait until the end of this year, I would wait until...

    9mm vs. .45 - not for defense!

...In other words, don't let the attractive cost of .22 ammo become the single factor for choosing a .22 handgun over a 9mm. Stick with the 9mm and you won't be disappointed. [Sorry for the double-post. My long-windedness gets the best of me sometimes.]

    9mm vs. .45 - not for defense!

Being a relatively new gun owner, I would start with the 9mm. I chose the 9mm over the .45 for various reasons. First, and probably most importantly, I knew that 9mm ammo would be cheaper than .45 ammo. Therefore, I could use that extra money and not break the bank on an annual membership...

Yet Another Set of Garand Questions

Thank you all for your knowledgeable input. I never thought about checking out the buy/sell forums, so I'll browse around there for a bit. But I'm probably going to end up going with The Garand Guy. He seems to have a great reputation and his prices aren't that bad in the large scheme of things.

Yet Another Set of Garand Questions

Hi, everyone. I'm intent on getting an M1 Garand in the near future. Unfortunately, I was a little too late in doing my research, as I see that CMP is completely out of stock with Garands until October of 2007. Seeing as how I can't wait until October of 2007 (since, if I'm reading...

Buying my first semiauto...looking at a Glock 19 or Sig 226. Thoughts?

When I was choosing my first gun, it was between the USP and the 226, both in 9mm. I chose the 226 and have never looked back. The Sig felt the best in my hand, compared to the USP and the Glocks. When I got my first gun, I didn't want price to be a factor. But I know that it would've cost...

Need 9mm: BHP, Sig, H&K, STI or RRA?

+1 for the Sig P226. I tried shooting the HK, but it didn't feel "right" in my hand. Too bulky and the magazine release was odd. The Sig, on the other hand, feels like a complete extension of my arm. Very smooth, easy to fire, and extremely accurate right out of the box. Worth every penny.

Remington 870 - What would be a fair price?

Thank you all for your advice. I'm meeting up with my friend next weekend, and I'll assess the gun then. If it's what it's cracked up to be, I might offer $300 and split the dealer transfer fees. If not, then I'll go a little lower. Either way, I'm pretty much committed to adding this...

Remington 870 - What would be a fair price?

Naturally, after getting my first gun (Sig P226), all I can think about is what my next one will be. Luckily, one of my friends has a new Remington 870 that he wants to get rid of. He said he was originally thinking of trading it in, but knew that the dealer would rip him off. He said he...

    First Gun! Practice Drills?

Hi, everyone - I just got my first gun the other day, a Sig P226 9mm. I'm looking for a simple, yet effective way to practice shooting at the range. I've checked out the other threads regarding practice drills (especiallly: http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=204400) but...

    Holsters for Sig P226

Thank you all for your comments. After taking in all the factors, I've narrowed my selection down to a leather OWB holster. As far as which brand to choose, I'll give it some time especially since I have to wait 10 more days until my new P226.
