    AR sights

My father recently bought a Smith and Wesson Sport II AR. I told him to get one with iron sights but when he showed it to me, it’s the version with no sights just a rail. I now need to get him something so that it is useable. I assume there is no way to get iron sights for it since there is no...

    Shooting Clays in Northern Virginia

It’s my father in law’s 70th birthday in July and we will be in Northern Virginia for it. He wants to shoot trap or sporting clays while he’s in VA (we all live in New Jersey now). Are there any good places for trap/sporting clays in NOVA that supplies gun and shells? I lived close to the...

    Steel case ammo in AR-15

My father has been buying .223/5.56 ammo where he can. Recently a shooting friend of his sold him boxes of steel cased .223 ammo and said not to use it in an AR (we have a Mini-14 so that was fine). The guy was selling the ammo for $6 a box so I told my dad to get as much as he could. My...

Practice 12 gauge 00 buck or slugs

My father in law just bought his first shotgun. He takes it to an indoor range where they only allow 00 buckshot or slugs. He wants my help finding him ammo (I know an almost impossible task), but I am a clay shooter and know nothing about buck/slugs. What would you all recommend for cheaper...

    Thoughts on Fallkniven knife

I like the look of the Fallkniven S1 Forest Knife. Does anyone have experience with them? Are they good, bad, overpriced? https://fallkniven.se/en/knife/s1/

    Most common ammo in US

    Don't get me wrong, I'll buy any gun I find that's chambered in 7.65 French Long, but I don't need a .17HMR.

    Most common ammo in US

I am looking to ditch some of my guns in calibers I don't use any more. I want to replace them with more common and available (I know nothings available right now) calibers. I'm not thinking full prepper, but as ammo gets scarce what might I have an easier time finding at stores or in private...

    5.56 in a .223 Ruger Ranch Rifle

I’ve received conflicting advice on this so I want to post it here and see if I can get a conclusive answer. I have a stainless/synthetic Mini 14 that my father bought me new in around 2005/06. it is only stamped with .223. People generally say you cannot fire 5.56 in .223 but then other...

    Shotgun for trap/home defense

My father in law is not a gun guy but decided he wanted a shotgun for home defense and occasional trap shooting. I generally would recommend getting two different shotguns and have each serve a specific role, but he only wants one. I recommended the 870 field/defense combo but wondered if anyone...

    First Hi-Power

Thank you all for your answers. I definitely think I will look at a MKII or MKIII. I like the sound of the better sights over the old style and never thought about the ambi thumb safety, but my wife shoots lefty so that will make it easier for her.

    First Hi-Power

I’ve loved the Hi-Power for years and am finally looking to get my own. I’m looking for a fixed sight version and I will be shooting it so while I love historic models I’d probably want something a little newer. Are there any models (say post 1970) I should aim for or avoid?

Favorite song lyrics mentioning a firearm.

One of my favorites that hasn't been mentioned is Loser by Jerry Garcia and often Performed by the Grateful Dead. If I had a gun for every ace I've drawn I could arm a town the size of Abilene

    Nazi Markings

I was recently looking at a french pistol that was a WWII bring back. It had "POLICE D'ETAT" on the slide but no German markings. This would lead me to assume the pistol was taken off of a french police officer or from a police station, but I was wondering if the German's ever used pistols...

    Beretta A300 Outlander

Honestly I was pushing for wood, but he went with the synthetic so hopefully he doesn't change his mind.

    Beretta A300 Outlander

5 Years ago, before my father's birthday, I posted a thread about finding him a light recoiling shotgun due to back issues (https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/shotgun-for-bad-back.691066/). A couple people mentioned the Beretta A300. Well he never got around to changing shotguns and...

    French Model 1935

I like somewhat obscure guns and lately have really been getting into French military rifles and pistols. I wondered if anyone had experience with the 1935A or 1935S pistol. I know ammo is pretty impossible to come by. Any pictures you have is greatly appreciated. Picture isn't mine but I...
